TPNM,
I know bud, I didn't mean for it to come across as hostile! I was admiring Robson as well to be honest, he had spades of grit & the odd tackle!
Elvis,
I was indeed. I'm also saying he was a better player which is fair enough. At the same time I'm not suggesting Keane is nowhere in sight, he was a great midfielder.

----------------------
Yep - I'd personally put Robson ahead of Keane slightly. But there isn't a huge gap between any of the players on that list.
Norman Whiteside sorted Souness out regular
.........................................................................
Then Neal sorted Whiteside out if he didn't know well enough to keep away
That was no Juve in 99.
And everton did not possess the midfield of Zidane, Davids and deschamps.
.....................
Jesus wept, no sooner do you make one utterly stupid commenty, you follow it with another.
TGM
I agree with you on Souness.
Dalgllish and Rush got most of the plaudits during Liverpools most successful period, but IMO, Souness was the one who made them tick.
Vc,
That Everton team was one of the best this country has produced in my opinion. I say that through gritted teeth but they were unstoppable that season.
Until the cup final of course. Whiteside had always turned up against us & Everton.
You guys will probably remember but didn't the Toffee's hammer you that season as well? Or am I imagining things!

................................................................................
Agreed.
He was a superb captain as well. It took us a few years to replace him.
Not to dissimilar to your problems when Keane left although we rectified it much quicker of course.
Some forget how good Terry Mc was as well next to Souness. He won the league player of the year award under Paisley, cracking player.

robbo wasnt capable of the perfroamnce keane gave against juve in 99.
...............
This is quite possibly the most ill thought out comment I have ever seen in this forum.
The FA Cup final in 1985 immediately springs to my mind.
-----------------------------
I think that the younger fans who didn't see him in his prime severely underrate just how good Robson was.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not me
Robbo was a warrior and a fantastic footballer to boot, both offensively and defensively
I dread to think how much a peak Robbo would cost today, and what I wouldn't give to have him in the midfield for us now
That Everton team was one of the best this country has produced in my opinion.
..............
Pretty sure they won the league and the cup winners cup that season.

Fairclough made the difference
From the Bench
They did.
Think they went unbeaten in the league from about October/November onwards.
You won that cup final with ten men didn't you? Anyone dismissing what your players put into a game like that against such a team hasn't a jot.

What I wouldn't give to have Robbo or Keane in our midfield now. Not many of that type or calibre to be had that I can think of from the top of my head.
Macca
Ole Gunnar Fairclough.

I wasn't suggesting anything other than you making yet another stupid comment.
Which part of that didn't you understand?
Stretty
Same chit, different day
Why does he do it to himself
On a serious note, Schweinsteiger (sp) and Vidal are comparable. Anyone else?
I wasn't suggesting anything other than you making yet another stupid comment.
-------------------------
Only way that comment can be deemed as stupid is if you think that everton were as good as Juve or there midfield was as good as theirs.
So by all means, explain what you mean.
That Everton team would've gave most sides a game.
Forget for a second that's its Everton & not the glamour of Juve.
They mightn't have been as good & that Juventus team was indeed top notch. The bluenose team that narrowly missed out on a treble was very good.
Only way that comment can be deemed as stupid is if you think that everton were as good as Juve or there midfield was as good as theirs.
..........
No Stretty what is stupid about it is that you listed three players, of which one was past his best, as if that was justification for your point.
It wasn't.
That Juve team didn't win even their league that season, otr their cup.
The Everton team that Robbo faced won ours and the cup winners cup.
United also had to play for 40 minutes with ten men. One day when you gropw up you will hopefully understand football.
I do not live in hope though.
Just had a look at the Everton 85 team/squad.
Obviously more of a settled 11 team than today's squad rotation. But by god, that was one hell of a team. I actually forgot how good they were. Probably because their period of success wasn't sustained.
Vc,
If a team went unbeaten for about 30 games & cruised the title now as that Everton team did we'd never hear the last of it.
An 80s version of Mourinho's first Chelsea sides. Powerful but slick.
