5million tops for Cleverley but even then if I was a decent team I wouldn't even go near him.
VC - Let him go. He cost us nothing and we'd likely get next to nothing for him anyway. Pay rise or not his current wage demands will also probably be beyond the clubs Likely interested in him.

I am quite happy to. But if I can make some cash on him then that is what I should be doing.
considering how big a fan of Cleverley Roberto Martinez is, I wouldn't be surprised to see Everton try to buy him.
Not extending his contract is stupid.
VC - who are these lesser teams that could match his contract that you think we'd get a decent fee from?
Can teams just not buy our players instead of freaking loans

Have you never seen a top club sell a player to a lesser team before? Obviously he'll just be paid a bit less.

Why are you stuck with this notion that they have to have their contract matched?
If you are a professional footballer and you are not getting games then you will go where ever you can to get game time.
The likes of Jonathan Greenining or Gibbo never got the same wages they were on at OT.
And actually someone like QPR could probably afford to increase his wages. They might be stupid enough to do it too.

I really don't get how people don't understand this.
Rio isn't going to be on 150 grand a week at QPR. Vidic isn't going to be anywhere near his pay packet from OT, in Italy.
Wes Brown and JOS are not earning what they got, at Sundreland.
Yeha,QPR are stupid enough to do it.

And what makes you think a guy trying to get into the England squad will happily except that?
And what if he isn't prepared to drop his demands
.............
What demands? I wasn't aware he had made any.
VC - OK. You appeared to support cleverly getting a new 5 year deal so we may later sell him on for a fee to a lesser club. I asked who these lesser clubs were that could match his wage. You and For then Suggested he would be prepared to be paid less. I asked what if wasn't prepared to drop his wages demands ( be paid a bit less)
I would like to see welbeck work under lvg for at least a season before he moves or is moved on
Forr - exactly. We don't know. Therefore bit risky giving him a 5 year deal in the hope we can get a fee that justifies it from a club he is prepared to move to.
But it's assuming a lot of things will go our way.
That clubs will be interested.
That these clubs will be willing to pay a fee that would cover his wages were he to stay.
That these clubs will be able to pay a fee Cleverly will be happy with.
People said similar things about Nani's contract last season and we've wasted a whole years wage on him and are now loaning him out for a year while paying his wage. It isn't really that straight forward that giving Cleverly a new contract will mean we can sell him on and make a profit.
A player like welbeck needs European football
According to newspapers Cleverley seems so be currently on about £35,000 per week. Not exactly that much. The talk of a new contract is that his pay would rise to £60,000 per week.
People don't seem to get that Cleverley is not paid anywhere near as much as Nani and Young. They both get over £100,000 per week i think. Cleverley is on relatively low wages for a club as big as ours.
Still adds up.
Why risk keeping him if we are unlikely to get a large fee?
If we really believe he can't offer us anything then best to get rid sooner, it'll only mean the loss of a couple million and could free up space during a time we don't need a large squad and bring in better players when we need to.
Actually i think hes on 40k rather than 35k but you get the point.
I asked what if wasn't prepared to drop his wages demands ( be paid a bit less)
.........
Then he sits on his a rse at OT not having a football career.
Is that likely to happen? No it isn't. And no agent worth his salt will tell his client he can expect similar wages at a lesser club.
