What's Sturridge got to do with anything?
I thought we were talking about Suarez leaving
Did you expect us to go into a season with just Sturridge and Lambert. Balotelli is probably the best striker available for our budget. We're not in a position to pay the sort of exorbitant wages you're paying Falcao.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You realise that we are not paying all of Falcao's wages and he actually took a pay cut to come play for us, right?
I thought being in the CL solved all your problems. We had your fans suggesting that Utd not being in the CL meant we could not attract the big names. Even your manager said so.
It’s a shame, United used to be the kind of club that valued team-building above the ‘galactico’ culture, and understood that it takes time to do it. Ferguson used to boast about it all the time, right up until he retired, and understood that his board had been very patient with him when he first joined United.
Just like Liverpool in the 70’s and 80’s, United could withstand the comings and goings of star players, because they had a successful pattern of play.
But all of a sudden, it’s just about how many ‘galacticos’ you can buy, and a team’s value is entirely based on how much you paid in transfer fees. Spending 60m on a player is the only thing that counts.
I think Rodgers has thrown the new signings in more quickly than he wanted to, because of injuries, so they are still finding their feet, and it will take time before the system becomes instinctive to them. Last night’s defence is an enitirely new one, as was the attack....only the midfield remains the same, and they’re playing ok, imo.
Once the established players are back fit, I think BR will go back to bringing the new players in more gradually. Having qualified for the CL, It was essential to add depth, and he’s done that, but they are not all going to hit the ground running as if they are already established...Lallana, for example, is barely match-fit.
In the meantime, though, we are getting by. We’ve got more points than we got from the corresponding fixtures last year, and we got our first CL win, without playing well.
Personally, I think Sturridge is more important to our playing pattern than Suarez was, which is backed up by the fact that our form kicked on almost immediately after we bought him, in January 2013. But he only cost us 12m, and Suarez cost us 24m, (and is now a ‘galactico’ ), so that’s never going to be accepted by the kind of fan who sits on his armchair gawping at the awesomeness of celebrities who cost huge amounts of money.
So I disagree with the premise of the OP, but wouldn’t expect the average SkyMcSofa fan to disagree with it.
Ferguson understands it, though.

Well, it’s been comprehensively answered.
What we most needed was squad-depth, and that’s what was addressed. Team-building is what Rodgers is basing his strategy on (as Ferguson did), and the new boys will take time to adapt to it...they’ve been thrown in sooner because of injuries, but in the meantime we’re getting by anyway.
I do not agree that we didn’t buy quality. Balotelli did last night what he was bought for...provide a moment of quality when we’re not playing well. The ball fell kindly for him, but the speed of his first touch, and of his volleyed finish, were class (and what separates him from the ordinary) and it got us out of jail.
Lallana was voted in the top 6 in the Premieership last year by his fellow pro’s (who I’m assuming you agree probably understand the game at that level better than you do)....and we bought him because proven Premiership experience is what we wanted.
But he’s not match-fit yet.
Many of the other buys are very young, so we’re looking to the longer term with them: Moreno, Manquillo, Markovic, Origi.
On the one occasion we had a recognisable team and pattern of play from last year, we humped Spurs away (funnily enough, just after they humped QPR 4-0)...so in the meantime we’re getting by. Lee Dixon also agreed with this, when he said that if we can get through the group stages, we’ll have a a better team by the time we play the first ko game, because the new players will by then be more adapted.
Good luck with your club’s conversion to the ‘Galactico’ culture,....all the indicators are that it’s not what Fergie wanted for your club, but bygones are very soon bygones, in the Sky age.
It’s not the route we’re taking, though, so there’s not much point in drawing conclusions from those criteria.
We're missing Sturridge, nor Suarez as Suarez would've been suspended.
