Just because Coulthard a British driver employed by the BBC says there are similarities does not prove or mean anything.

It's purely his opinion and I'm sure you can find other ex racing drivers out there who would disagree with Coulthards ramblings.

i am sure there would - and it doesnt prove anything on an entirely subjective matter - but you would have to be entirely devoid of any intelligence to say there are ZERO similiarities

Oh wait, there's more, a rival;

But Horner believes the loss of Hamilton will significantly hamper McLaren.

"I think McLaren is a weaker team without Lewis," said Horner. "I think McLaren would admit that.

"Lewis is an outstanding driver and in Lewis and Jenson they had a hugely strong driver line-up."

"McLaren have had a great car this year and who's to say they won't have an even better one next year," Horner said.

But he also believes Mercedes is set to be a greater force with Hamilton onboard.

"Whichever team had taken Lewis, he would be an asset," said Horner.

"I'm sure he will naturally add performance to Mercedes next year."

Horner said: “Mercedes have recorded some head-turning times.

“Lewis is a world class driver and will raise their level. They will be a factor this year.”

This would be a good read for people like Mr Neville;

Spaniard Alonso thinks Hamilton is better than the Red Bull star.
"Lewis is so fast, aggressive, totally focused. He is interested only in victory.
"Sebastian has not quite reached that level," he told Germany's Sport Bild.

Just Shoot, would Hamilton have made pole in Hungary if his car hadn't caught fire?
Would he have made pole in Monaco if Rosberg hadn't caused a yellow flag?
If so the count would have been 8 v 5

posted on 25/9/14

And how many of Rosbergs fastest laps were set in races where Hamilton retired? Yes I know at least one of Hamilton's was set at Singapore but you can see where I'm coming from.

Fastest laps mean nothing.

posted on 25/9/14

Agree but Just Shoot seems to think so. But sticking with it for a while, how many hatricks has Rosberg had this year JS?

Hamilton v Rosberg
Poles.
6 v 7
Fastest laps
5 v 5

Yes, Hamilton is the greatest. I wonder where Rosberg is rated??

----------------------------------------------------------------------

What about wins?

posted on 25/9/14

This is the problem we have, how can someone put fastest laps as a measure of the qualities of a driver?

posted on 25/9/14

Something just struck me, no one has suggested Hamilton is the greatest ever or even the greatest on the grid so I wonder where that came from.

Since we are talking about silly stats, Chilton must be the greatest driver finishing the most races.

He's da man!!

good evening BW

as somebody who has seen the full career of senna and lewis ( to date) i am probably the only person on the forum who can make an accurate comparison , and you are right , there are no similarities that i can see and believe me i know what to look for --
hamiltons party piece is his one lap pace and rosberg is as quick as lewis on that score so to compare him with senna on any level is laughable -

however moving on --- as to who will win the title is a difficult one as lewis and rosberg appear to be very evenly matched , afraid to say i think it will come down to reliability as the law of averages would appear to suggest that both drivers will have at least another belly up race -

in all honesty i believe it may come down to the double points rule at the last race and must admit i feel sorry for the merc driver that loses the WDC because of that --

I'm surprised some of you dismiss fastest laps. By their nature drivers are highly competitive beasts and to have the fastest lap will be something the drivers want. Unfortunately with the silly nature of the current F1 format, drivers have to be wary of fuel consumption and tyre wear instead of out right pace.

For those stats I was just showing Rosberg as a comparison as drivers of others cars is unfair. Senna had Prost keeping him honest, Hamilton has ......... Rosberg.

To completely through my valuation of Hamilton vs Senna, it could be argued that many drivers of today are faster than their counterparts in history. Senna was a game changer with his dedication and focus. Schumacher then upped the ante with almost a 24/7 focus on squeezing more out. I would guess today that all of the drivers spend more hours doing their job, than say drivers of the 80's.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

i am not sure if the drivers are that interested in the fastest race lap JS as in the scheme of things it means very little and i would imagine the drivers have it drummed into them to win the race at the slowest possible speed especially now as reliability is such an issue -

very hard to compare the work ethic of drivers of different generations , i would think the basic difference is a current driver can play around in the simulator anytime he likes where as drivers of a previous era would pound round some lonely track somewhere doing hours of testing -
-------------- apart from that i believe the work ethic would be fairly similar --

Oh exalted Low downforce Monaco expert, please forgive my impudence, please look up the word similarities.

It appears oh exalted one that the meaning escapes you.

Won't be the first time or the 1000th, but who is counting oh exalted Mercedes will lose their power advantage with the new engines one
