Serial,
but who is this top manager with a great reputation and still has age on his side?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not just top reputation in which we should look at.
Ideally we would like someone who has the experience of building "successful" team after team.
One of the reason I am not too keen on Klopp. He had a good 4-5 years but his latest purchases haven't been meh... .
Oh... and he doesn't seem to have any plan B either.

Come on mate, leave it out. There's plenty of top class managers out there. Our board, and our fans, seem to have this fear of going for the unknown. They're very comfortable with the meagre level Wenger has placed them and are afraid to move beyond.
Like it or not, Wenger is finished after this contract. So it 2.5 years time who'll be available?! I think plenty of top managers.
Wenger did win something to start with and transform us into the modern day super club as such to earn that price tag. Are you really going to tell me that we should pay his replacement that kind of money before he's done a dam thing for AFC.
Whether you agree with his way of managing the team or not' his salary is a reflection of the entire sum of what he has done at Arsenal. No replacement should be paid anywhere near what we give him without winning the league a couple of times at least.
in terms of the club he came to and the club he'll leave' he's earned every penny of his huge salaryand done alot more than just manage the team to get it.

--------------------------------
So you're saying Wenger is earning his £8m a year on the back of what he did, over a decade ago?!
That's a curious way of running a business. It's the real reason Wenger has lost all ambition. He has no incentives because financially he is rewarded regardless of his current progress.
In a successful business, you offer top dollar for the top people. You don't offer pennies to tramps in the hope they'll turn into a star.
I would certainly hand the £8m a year that Wenger is earning to the likes of Mourinho, Ancellotti, Simeone, Klopp, because I don't care about what they did over a decade ago, rather what they can give right now.
And right now, Wenger is nowhere near worth the £8m a year he gets paid.
Did you actually read his entire comment? Or just the bit you quoted?
Was sat wondering the same thing HC.
Of course I read his comment. The part I quoted was most relevant to my answer to it.
Any chance you can make a football related comment now, or is whinging your forte?

Not sure why you're wondering, tbh. You've basically stated that Wenger is earning solely on the back of his reputation. The question is, is Wenger worth the £8m on what he's currently doing?
You'll find the answer is a big no. So if Wenger is massively under achieving on his current salary, surely we can get in a far superior manager for a similar fee.
"You've basically stated that Wenger is earning solely on the back of his reputation."
So you didn't read it then.
WTF are you talking about?? Care to make a proper comment instead of your usual drivel?
"Whether you agree with his way of managing the team or not' his salary is a reflection of the entire sum of what he has done at Arsenal."
Is not the same as:
"You've basically stated that Wenger is earning solely on the back of his reputation."
Why are you turning into such a asshat these days? You used to be one of the good ones.

is the same (more or less) as:
"You've basically stated that Wenger is earning solely on the back of his reputation."
So yeah, I did read the comment and I still find it a bit odd. Why would any chairman, CEO or manager earn his wage on the back of something he did many many years ago?

I am annoyed with Arsenal and AW, and I would like to see a change in the manager department, but I have to say these negative articles are wearing thin...
The club will not sack AW this season and I dont think he will walk away before his contract expires, so to keep going over the same gripes is getting pointless now.....
as for the original article, AW says Arsenal can win the league in the next 3 seasons and they can.... its not impossible at all..
I dont think under this manager it will happen, but as I said, keep going over the same points daily when he will likely be here 2.5 more years is tiresome.
Perhaps we should be discussing where we can improve in the squad (youth team etc) and see what January brings before we continue with the negativity.
I am as much to blame as anyone too.... but maybe it comes a point when you just resign yourself to what we have and support the team when are where possible.

Which I have stated in the OP:
" But let’s be honest, no one really thought he was going to leave early, anyway. However he has pretty much confirmed that this will be his final contract. OK, we’ll just have to put up with another 2 and a half years of his inept management, but the silver lining is he’ll be gone after that"

As you've said, they already earn more than him so we'd effectively just be paying the going rate for them.
There's only oneother manager then who is paid more than him. The rest all less. Not about to bump their salary up to his level just for turning up to manage AFC.
Simeone and Klopp, who've achieved more in 3 years than Wenger has in a decade, earn a lot lower than him.
And as a side note, Wenger didn't build the stadium. Not unless he took up brick work in place of football tactics.
Best they'd get off me Serial is the chance to earn the same. Kind 4 mil basic but up to Wenger's 8 mil if there's an EPL title in the cabinet come the end of the season.
Basically to warrant being paid the 8 million Wenger is, his replacement has GOT to win the title. Because anything less and he's not really done anything for his money
There was an article earlier suggesting players may have to take a 25% pay cut if we failed to qualify for the CL - However true that is, and in what form that reduction would be, would you agree that if it was the case that it would be absolutely unacceptable if Wenger didn't also take a pay cut?
Just joining this thread so apologies if this has been mentioned.
1) It is not known how AW’s current contact has been structured but I understand his salary is now defined on results – ie he has to achieve certain predetermined goals before he acquires his full salary.
2) Many fans hanker for Klopp. (there’s a joke in there somewhere). While there are certainly others who could achieve more than AW currently is, Klopp basically told Dortmund fans earlier in the week that crave silverware, to go and support Bayern. In turn the Dortmund fans displayed a banner showing their support for Klopp – a stark difference to the banner displayed at the Hawthorns in regard to AW.
Finally there is no chance whatsoever of the club sacking AW a few months into a new contract, and it is inconceivable that if there were considering moving him on, they would only be too aware of what happened at Man United.
