Laugh at Liverpool...really?

Agree. Said it for years that the CL bores me cos we have NO chance of winning it. You just know we'll always get a beeatch-slapping whenever we meet the big boys of Europe. In a way, we're victims of our own consistency cos we would have a very good chance in the Europa if we facked up enough to be in it. We reached the final in our only appearance in the competition under Wenger afterall.

The only (supposed) issue with the Europa league is the Thurs and Sunday Schedule. Apparently that's meant to be a bad thing, but no one has as yet explained why.

Anyway, I suspect most of us (Gooners) won't be laughing after Friday, when we get drawn with Bayern, again. And after we get pretty much pumped, Wenger can carry on focusing on qualifying for next years CL failure.

In the last few seasons when Arsene was not investing in the team you would think we would have been better served trying to win europa.

Now considering the squad we have and the fact that a lot of english teams will takle it seriously for the champions league place we are better of trying to match the levels of bayern and Real.

Remember it takles time as City have learnt. The more times Ox plays in the competition the less overawed he is in future.

we will win ol big ears one day.

Of course it takes time, but as we're constantly being reminded, you have made it for 17 successive years to the CL. One final and 2(?) semis in that time is pretty poor. City will win it before you do.

We LAL, because their delusions of grandeur. We all told them that they would struggle with the extra games and no Suarez and they were deluded enough to think they are a better side than us.

I actually agree with this article in the main though, I would have actually prefered us to finish third. That is only down to the ridiculous rule that rewards failure in the champions league with a fresh start in another competition. As someone said, we got to the final last time we were in it and we always play fairly well in Europe where teams dont tend to kick two lumps out of each other

Saying that, who knows what can happen with us this year in the CL? We seem to have moments of superhuman performance in that competion that gets destroyed by freak incidents. Who knows how far we can get with a bit of luck

Wenger's really broken you hasn't he, Bats? You can't even LAL anymore.

I'm gonna LAL all week at this one and I have every right to.

A lot of their problems (not all!) are down to Sturridge being injured. They'd be far higher up the league if he was playing.

So, thank you England.

It's not even close btw. I'd much rather stay in the CL than go into Europa.

The only manager ever to get in the champions league knockout stages 15 times in a row, sometimes with pitiful squads.... Good analysis

We wouldn't win Europa so why the desire to drop into it?

As painful as our eventual dumping from the Champions League - whenever it happens - may be, personally I'd rather still be in it, than drop into the Europa League.

'Drop into'.

That two words sums up that competition so well. Which is unfortunate, considering there are actually some interesting teams in it.

Bring back the UEFA Cup and I'd be really up for it. In it's current format though, it just seems like such a turgid, pountless competition.

Football poison.

Problem with some of the scousers is that they are full of delusion. Then you got the manager talking about the players going down in folk law if they beat Basle and qualify

As for us, yes we will get a bayern or a barca and get destroyed once again

How did you extrapolate from qualifying to actually winning it?! Or are you prescribing to the probability that if you participate in the event enough times, you're bound to win it eventually??

Liverpool played like a pub team last night, wayward passing, players not on the same wavelength and general lack of spirit. They deserved to get knocked out of the best competition in football.

We may feel like we are making the numbers up but eventually if you do something enough times you will achieve your goal.............hahahahaaaa no way, not with Wenger in charge!!!

Even in his pomp, Wenger has always been a failure in Europe.

From losing to Galatasary on penalties, to getting thumped home and away vs Depor with our double winning team, to going out to a weak Chelsea team with the invincibles, to getting tactically outwitted by United in the semis, to getting spanked by Milan. Failure after failure.

Definitely not with Wenger

We will continue making the same mistakes

Being in the last 32 of the Europa is no different to being in the last 32 of the champions league.

I give you malmo, Maribor, BATE and APOEL.

The champions league is aimed at the simple fan, the one who buys the shorts for a silly logo, the one who love FIFA2014, the one who pours over every Ibrahimovic YouTube video.
