I'm positive about it Don, I've already seen us win the title 3 times more than I ever thought I would, so I'll die a happy man whatever.

As it is I happy to see the squad evolve season by season but I just don't feel this season will be ours!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree, I just feel we are not there yet, feels like something is still missing.

If we don't strengthen our squad this month then I don't see us winning the Premier League. A few positions need strengthening with quality and depth.

This thread seems to be a lot of analysing our faults while overlooking City's. They are not a perfect team by any stretch and just have a look at the fixtures they've had!

Donn, the fixtures are more or less the same, the only difference being they have on paper some harder away fixtures, but I think they are set up to be just as good away from home as they are at home.

City are much worse away from home.

City have Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United, Stoke, a Tottenham, Southampton away from home.

Meanwhile we only really have Arsenal away. (You could count QPR/West Ham but I can see us winning both games)

Really? They have 24 points from 11 away game and we have 19 points from 11 away games.

They are far better on the counter than we are which in theory makes them a better team away from home than we are.

Yes I agree that on paper we have played harder away fixtures than they have so far this season, but the title ain't won on paper.

Oh and City have already beaten Southampton away from home 3-0..........a match where they played counter attack to perfection..

posted on 17/1/15

Also whilst City have more difficult away fixtures than we do it does of course by default mean we have more difficult home fixtures than they do.

One could reasonably argue City to win all their remaining homes games and for us to start dropping a few points at home.

posted on 17/1/15

anyway purely on paper, I will predict that City win 8 and draw 1 of their remaining home games and win 5 , draw 1 and lose 2 of their remaining away games which in theory would give them a final points tally of 88 points.

So on paper I predict we need to get 40 points from our remaining 18 games to be champions.

I honestly think we need a minimum 5 points lead after that game to have a chance of becoming champions.
-----------------------
Is this not a bit negative? Unless we're five points clear we don't even have a chance of winning the league?

Those two fixture for me sum up why City will beat us to it.

City blew them away whilst we struggled to break them down.

In the same way City lost a 2 goal lead at home to Burnley whilst we blew them away at their stadium

In the same way City lost at home to Stoke whilst we comfortably beat them away from home.

Not hegative in any way, it is just my objective analysis of the situation, which could be right or wrong.

Oh and Brummies was at least making a like for like comparison.

It's harder to win away, is it not?

Oh and Everton 1-1 City, Everton 3-6 Chelsea.
This game is pointless, they'll better us in some fixtures, we'll better them in others. In the end, what's really important is that we've amassed more points at this stage, have easier fixtures left, and should aim to continue with what we've done this season.

I think if you will read the thread myself and Brummie were making the point that City are better away from home than we are because they are more clinical on the counter.

If you want to go down this route then ask yourself if we would have beaten Everton away without Costa, Matic and Terry playing because City were missing Aguero, Toure and Kompany.

As is said this article is based on my analysis, it may well be wrong, but it was based more than just a whim.

So City are better away than at home? I disagree. City have had easier away fixtures than us, they have a lot of tough matches in this second half of the season.

Well who has the easier remaining fixtures is debatable and where does anyone suggest that we should not aim to continue?

The way I see it:
1) We have more points than City
2) We have easier away games than City
I think we have a real advantage at this point and even if things don't go our way in the next couple of weeks and we lose point 1, point 2 still gives us a real chance.

Yes they have harder away fixtures on paper and we have harder home fixtures on paper.

IMO They have a team better equipped to win away from home than us because they are more clinical than we are on the counter

They have 24 points versus our 19 on the road

We have 30 points versus their 23 at home, but then again they have had harder home fixtures than us.

Like you said, It makes sense that we have less points away as we've had harder away games, and more at home since we've had easier home games.

It's a question of whether we can keep up our good home form against tougher opposition, but also about whether City keep up their away form against tougher opposition. Given that, I again think we're in the better position.

That is absolutely fine..........As i said, I have no idea if my view is correct, and it may not even get tested, but i feel we need that cushion of at least 5 points after we have played City.

City have suffered injuries, we have not yet here they are right on our tails. If we do not have that cushion and we suffer injuries to key players I think we will finish behind them.
