There's a good chance these people have been schooled whilst in Syria. They may have been told they could go to prison. Do their time, then get released to do what they've been instructed to....

A good chance? What chance? Brainwashed? What?

This ain't clockwork orange or 1984 lads.

Next you'll be telling me there is a trigger word and he'll go nuts.

Who's to say he won't spend those 5 years converting other inmates. Inmates who may have an axe to grind against this country.
===================

I am because that preposterous.

Really? It's happening right now. Many people are getting converted to extremism whilst in prison. Its a well known issue. It's happening in schools and colleges, what makes you think it isn't happening in our prisons?

Time for the UK to stand up to terrorism and get tough imo.

Apart from stopping people returning from Syria what else would you do?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I said in previous comments anyone known by MI5 for terrorist activity should be kicked out of the UK.

Just my opinion.

Sorry Term I find it highly unlikely that James, converted islamist who fled from Jihad will go to jail to try and convert people.

But you asked for solutions..... solitary I guess. Or put him with right wing pronazi types. Both workable for me.

Again as I have already stated I would kick them out to whatever middle eastern country the organisation they want to fight for comes from. Failing that the middle of the facking desert for all I care. Let the fackers live in poverty.

I think it's possible he could convert others, particularly those in prison who may feel anger at the state for being placed in prison. Either way it's not worth the risk he could do that, solitary confinement

I think the solution would be to stop people going to Syria or Iraq, etc, but how do you do that? You'd need loads of help from places like Turkey and I doubt we'd get it.

It's a tough one. Perhaps we just fill him in. I think a good hiding is undervalued these days. Waterboard the blood off afterwards.

Any known potential terrorists should be on 24/7 watch by mi5.If they need help i am willing to lend a hand.

Anyone that has fought for a overseas terrorist organisation should be barred from returning here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
They are most probably watched.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You think? There are probably thousands (maybe tens of thousands) on the watch list, they can't be under permanent surveillance.

You have a very naive and insulated view of the world.

This isn't conventional warfare. These organisations don't have access to the same technology as leading Western nations. They have to find other ways to wage their 'war'.

You keep using the phrase 'James from London', as if being born here and having a British name means he won't launch a terror attack in this country. He's just come back from Syria, do you really think he couldn't of been indoctrinated? What about the other 500 'James from London' who went to Syria. What if even 1% of them came back with the intention of attacking this country?

And you think it's a preposterous idea?

posted on 19/1/15

Are they not looking for people to go to mars or something and you can't come back. I think that could work.

The moon does sound like a good idea though

The term 'western privileges' is lets say a little way off being politically correct.
