Robb as a season ticket holder if they scrapped this rule and you had to apply for Cup games and I missed out on a ticket for a cup game against Liverpool or Barcelona to Kung Pow Chow on holiday from Tokyo I would be livid. That's the point you're missing....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, I accept you like the scheme but I know plenty of people who don't. Say United get 5th place this season and go into the Europa Cup and also have a load of home draws in the league cup. I'd imagine being forced to go to a bunch of games (with threat of season ticket suspension) would be something that a vast number of people who have season tickets would be annoyed by, and rightly so.
There should be a choice when you buy your season ticket to have one for league games only or to pay maybe an extra £100-£200 and get cup games too.
Hang on, look at the flip side..
If this was a replay against Premier League opposition the Man U fans wouldn't have said anything about it and would have gladly turned out.
As its Cambridge United they are scoffing at paying for a ticket for this match.. why?
You only want to support your club for the big games?
And what about Cambridge - they expected to turn up to play against a capacity crowd for the atmosphere and of course to line their clubs coffers..
I'm not sure they would be too enthralled at the prospect of a half empty stadium!
Also - the Man U fans that do turn out against Cambridge where season ticket holders don't - shouldnt' they be rewarded with a chance of going to a premier league game?

This is what they wilfully signed up for. No one forced them to do this. I have provided a link to the terms and conditions and they even tell you to take note of this before you buy the service.
All season ticket holders know what they have signed up for and so have to deal with it.
Also we haven't had a home cup game yet this season so people should want to go.

Agree with first part. I'm one of them and I'll be there. We knew the score before a ball was kicked.
Second part I don't agree with though. Spoken like a true armchair fan as well I must say. Not many match going fans I know are looking forward to seeing Cambridge Utd at OT for £40+.

If someone wants to buy a season ticket they are then forced to pay for cup games. I very much doubt people want that extra caveat on top of their season ticket but it's there.
Like Se85, a regular match goer on here says, the Glazers have thrust this on fans and many of them don't like it. You make out that signing up for something means you have to agree with everything that comes with it.
That doesn't always have to be the case and i'm sure many United season ticket holders would love to have a choice when choosing which home games to go see. Especially a £40 ticket to see Cambridge on a work night.
It is called leverage. The club has it. It is in its best interest that all games are fully attended and provides the added benefit of making sure the ST holders get to watch it.
Next thing people will be arguing that ST should not be ppaid completely only the big games I want to go to.
It is a privilege people travel from all around the world to come see us play and because it is so easy you guys take it for granted.
The same way you all lamented about glazers and could not do anything about it, this too is pointless. How about they stop forcing people to pay for cup games and then rename the stadium Chevrolet Old Trafford? Same twerps will lament while shouting how we should spend 100 of millions.

I am just asking people to honour commitments they have made. Are you suggesting people should not honour commitments they make?
There's two separate arguments here. The article in the mail itself concerns whether the club are right to enforce people to pay for the Cambridge match. As those fans signed up to it, then yes they are and as much as it isn't great customer service, the fan can't really say anything as he knew what he was signing up for.
The other facet is whether it is right to make cup games compulsory for ST holders. Now you could argue the demand is there and therefore it is a business way of ensuring they get maximum revenue from all games. In corporate world, absolutely. I don't know many United fans that are happy with the approach though. It's not as if the match day revenue it generates is even needed, they could afford to subsidise the cup games from the new sponsorships so that Cambridge would still get the same allocation and then reduce the cost to get greater numbers in for what otherwise is a less than glamorous tie given the midweek late kick off.
I think this contract is disgraceful to be honest. If you want a season ticket you must also go to the Cup match or else? Madness.
Its not like St holders have a choice of a different contract where this does not apply. Just because it is in the contract does not mean it is fair. The are using the love you have for you club against you.
Can some of you who are defending this not see this? Just because it is in a contract it doesnt mean it is fair.

Melton and I have the same view, there are 2 separate arguments here and they really should be treated that way.
I wonder if we were playing Liverpool whether the views would be the same. Then where do we go from there, we start selecting the league games we want to go to?
Like I said, you can pick and choose the games you want to go to over the course of a season. City/Liv/Ars may be tough but you can get the other 16 games if you want to.
