Why not just scrap season tickets in the first place and put all match tickets on genera sale.
That way you can pick and choose what games you go to. Then every one is happy.

Another angle to look at it from.
Let us say cup match tickets went on sale to the general public. How miffed would a season ticket holder be if he couldn't get one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Give the Season Ticket holders first preference, problem solved.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Stop complaining, case closed. Moan utd fans ceaseless and never ending moaning
I notice that none of the "terms and conditions" people have engaged in the Ryanair argument I made 90 minutes ago. Yes, they have the legal right to draw up such a contract. Yes, they have the legal right to enforce it. But they don't generate goodwill or 'brand loyalty', let alone nurturing the old-fashioned idea of a community of supporters who are part of the fabric of the club. Setting aside any moral arguments, I don't think it's great long-term business strategy to do this when the brand is feeding off some romantic idea of the FC. Consumers are a lot more savvy and interconnected these days, and much more easily disenchanted with brands they buy into.

-----------------------------------
There are ways around this.
1) Give season ticket holders the OPTION of signing up to all cup tickets as an extra at the start of the season.
2) Make cup tickets available to season ticket holders a day or so in advance of general sales.
Red Russian, you make some great points but sadly you're debating with people who probably would argue that turkeys voting for Christmas is a good idea.
The other way rr is to replicate what city have, which is a loyalty system. It still has flaws (at least, I think it does) but it is one way of guaranteeing those that go week in week out get priority over those looking the the occasional ticket.
The two options you suggested are also in place on top of that.
Hate this arrogant attitude. If our players feel the same then Cambridge will do us over.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you not watch the first game?
Why would i want to pay £40 to watch a league 2 side who are going to come and park the jumbo jet on their 18yr box line.
--------------------------------------------
Good point
This is why I think United will look to suspend season tickets if they don't come and watch because United know they will be lucky to see 30,000 in at the stadium, never mind the 75,000+ they usually get.
I'm not complaining because I knew what I was getting into, like I do every season.
I don't have to be happy about it though.
My heart sank when the final whistle went because I knew I was going to have to pay full price for a ticket to see a league two team with a most likely non existent atmosphere on a freezing cold night.

Would you think it was fairer to have a system where you could apply for cup tickets with priority as a season ticket holder?
Freezing cold man utd attitude to supporters, boycott the club,
I still do not understand the "outrage"
You sign up for something knowing this can happen. Event happens then you complain.
What exactly are you whining about?

This is only 50-50. Yes, it was a bad game against Cambridge and United fans wouldn't have wanted to have seen that but if anything, Cambridge will make as much noise as possible. They will bring thousands in support. The whole of Cambridge will be in that ground.

That's a bit of a straw man argument. Why not engage with the subtler points that have been made?
I was at the home game vs Burton Albion and Exeter City and a few others too. They're ALWAYS awful matches where we do just enough to get through and sometimes not enough.
Again I'll be there and cheering on the reds but I really really really wish we'd have pinched a last minute undeserved goal.

I fully support this idea. People get a season ticket as there are privileges. You are guaranteed seats at every game of the season at OT. Games against Pool, City and Arsenal, some people struggle to get for yonks.
Then when one of the benefits you get comes around you are like, nah! I do not want that.
I have never had a season ticket, cannot commit myself to one as I live away from the City. Some hop in their car to a game or walk or get a tram and the costs make sense.
When going to a single game costs me close to £300 and I go on average 7-10 games a season, do the math.

There are separate arguments RR.
I am more than happy to debate the fairness of the cup scheme.
I just do not understand why people are upset about paying for something they have agreed to already in the first place
I would imagine Cambridge fans signing their hearts out. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

How come you haven't done so, given ample opportunity on this thread? Rob, Stretford, Melton and I have made reasonable points on this thread and I can't see anyone engaging with them. They only seem to want to go on about cry babies not understanding the concept of contracts.
How is being forced to pay £40 to watch Cambridge at home or have your season ticket suspended a benefit
===========
1. You freely signed up to this already no one forced you to
2. Are you going to watch Cambridge or Utd?
So then, if season tickets were scrapped altogether then people wouldn't be forced to go so that's the benefit. Nobody is saying all United fans have to go to this game, you don't have t go to the game.

So if money was tight and I hadn't foreseen a replay against Cambridge on the horizon and I didn't have £40 to spend on it and I didn't and had my ticket suspended would that be something you'd argue against?
Like it or not, by having a threat like this out there the club are forcing people to pay the money for a tie that wasn't even in anyone's mind when the tickets were bought back in June/July

You don't have to go to the game but whether or not one goes, money will be debited from the account.
Like myself and others have said, there's a far fairer way of doing this.
Don't bother with Mudd.....he's a moron.
Don't like it, don't sign up to it isn't a valid solution as you'd not get a ticket against likes of City, Chelsea, Liverpool etc in a million years otherwise.
It's an awful system. Us fans have been treated like utter crappp by the parasites since day one. Quite a few people who used to sit near me haven't been for years now. They gave up pretty much as the Auto cup scheme was enforced.
Even if one doesn't others might do though at the same time. Especially in away games if their are some fans that live in Birmingham for example, then they can easily go to West Brom or Aston Villa away without having a season ticket. I think it would be more beneficial without one tbh.
