UKIP would be consigned to the political dustbin if all the main parties grew a pair and allowed the British the democratic freedom of choice between EU and independence. If MPs allowed a debate and had the conviction to do their jobs properly and put their careers where their mouths are by jumping off the fence then we can move forward.

Instead of informing and inspiring the country one way or the other they prefer to ar$e lick their own party ideology and political leaders for the sake of their careers. The result being that we are all sitting on the fence.

Sizzle

You don't even know your history, what do you say about the fact that Wilson's Labour government closed more mines and laid off more miners than Thatcher did. Google it and see.

Of course the campaign to stay in the EU will win.

If it's the same as we had up here, it'll be any sceptics vs the government, all major parties, the MSM, big business and various "experts".

All of which will be more than willing to blatantly lie and deceive the public, unchallenged.

I very much suspect UKIP don't have the nous to at least work up a grass roots campaign like the Yes campaign had up here to try to make things close.

For what it's worth, I absolutely want to stay in the EU. If England wants us to be dragged out of the EU then I will absolutely want another referendum for independence immediately.

As much as I won't condone closing mines, the Labour Party tried to keep the mining industry alive by streamlining it.

The Tories purposefully killed it stone dead while leaving those communities to rot.

There is no comparison.

So you would want independence from a political union if they choose to have independence from a political union.

Hod

That's a hugely simplistic way of looking at it, but yes, I'd want independence from a nation that, by its actions, damaged the country in which I lived, simply because taking us out of the EU would absolutely damage Scotland. Our trade deals with the EU are critical and quite frankly given the way that the working poor particularly are already treated by "our" government I'd be very nervous to have the safeguards of EU legislation removed.

And Winston Churchill was a wánk by the way, and I'm proud of the fact that my city voted him out of what he considered a safe seat.
