Liverpool v Manchester United

A defeat ain't the end of the world because of who Liverpool have the week after.

If we lose and Arsenal win at Newcastle then we will be 1 behind Liverpool and 4 behind Arsenal.

Liverpool playing Arsenal means whatever happens rivals will drop points. If we beat Villa then the worst we can be off 4th would be only 1 point if Liverpool win, that would also mean we would only be 1 point off Arsenal.

2 - 0 Liverpool.

Manu unable to handle Liverpool's energy, pressing and pace.

Liverpool will tear United apart.
4-1.
Or it might be tight.
1-0.
Or it could be a hard fought draw.
0-0.
Or United might nick it.
0-1.

2-1 to Liverpool is my prediction.

Liverpool will concede, they look shaky at the back.

Whatever happens, one team will definitely win....or draw.

Also if we lose, what are our chances of a top 4 finish?

..................

The way I see it is that United, City, Arsenal and the Dips are going to fight for three places.

Maximum points will have to be won against all the lesser teams that we all play. Failure of that will likely mean ending up fifth.

They don't look that shaky, haven't conceded a single goal away from home since we beat them.

Swansea played really well in the first half last night but still didn't manage to score, Mignolet made a couple good saves but they weren't overly troubled.

I'd say we probably need to create more than usual to possibly score.

A vidi says, in regard to top 4, it will probably come down to a result against a Palace or a Hull going wrong, than a win in a super duper Sunday clash.

Thing is you just know one or more of those 4 will drop silly points to a lesser side somewhere along the line.

Liverpool can play :

3-4-3
4-3-3
4-4-2 diamond

With the same personnel on the pitch... really can catch teams off guard.

Stats stats stats. Liverpool have been shaky at the back in the last few games I've seen them, the same as we got lucky at times in our good run.

And you're right, Swansea had chances, chances we would have likely put away, Swansea too most days of the week.

Indeed I do. Which is why I will not get all suicidal if we don't get a result against the dips.

Some on here will though.

I said before Spurs game that if we won 6 out of last 10 and drew 2 and lost 2......we should get into top 4.

That would leave us on 73 pts which is normally enough.

So we can afford to lose a few games. A loss this weekend would be hugely disappointing but not end of world either.

I'm actually hopeful of upsetting the odds at Chelsea as they may have more or less won it by that game and may not be as up for it as they could have been.

We've got a tough ask to get top 4 but we have the players to beat all those teams.

Liverpool will be intricate and pacey, everything that spurs weren't. I was shocked how bad spurs were. Pochettino decided to go all out attack on Sunday and decided not to use a dm against us. Weird.

Liverpool will be hugely better, surely? Like mu82 says though a defeat isn't hugely destructive. But it would give Liverpool more of a spur in their run for top 4.

One thing in our favour is that liverpools pitch is a bit shitt right now and the Liverpool fans seem to think playing away from home is more preferable right now.

The one thing to remember is that in December Liverpool were at their worst and still created more than enough chances to beat us. They are now the best team in the league and could do some damage.

Like I said at the start, even if we lose to Liverpool, with them and Arsenal playing the week after, realistically the worst we will be off 4th is just 1 point after that game, and that would be off both Liverpool and Arsenal. So it really isn't the end of the world.

On the flip-side, a defeat for Liverpool could mean their top 4 chances are as good as over if results do not go their way, then they have Arsenal the week after.

Liverpool A - Loss
Villa H - Win
City H - Win
Chelsea A - Loss
Everton A - Win
West Brom H - Win
Palace A - Win
Arsenal H - Draw
Hull A - Win

That's not being too optimistic and would leave us on 75pts.

It's definitely doable.

We also have an "extra point" over Liverpool with their poor goals record.

Busby, if we beat Liverpool I have zero doubt we'll get top 4. I think even Liverpool fans would tell you that.

Imo arsenal will get 2nd place. It would be hilarious to see city miss out on top 4

If/ when Man City get a battering in Barcelona, I'll be interested to see how they react in the PL, facing an almost certain trophy-less season.

If they don't have Aguero/ Silva/ Toure at their best, they really aren't a great team.

I have a feeling Everton away will be tough game.

I see the last 9 games being this...

Liverpool - loss
Villa - win
City - draw
Chelsea - loss
Everton - draw
Palace - win (but a very tough game)
West Brom - win
Arsenal - loss
Hull - win

Didn't Rogers say yesterday Liverpool need 23 from 30 points, that means in his mind they can afford to lose 1 and draw 2 from their games against us, Arsenal and Chelsea and win the rest.

No idea if that number of points will be enough for them though?

OP

Any reason you put this on the Brentford board? No one has been on there since the 7th Feb.
