It's a scandal that Qatar is hosting it. It doesn't even look like there are any conditions of hosting it where the death toll from migrant workers needs to come down or the tournament will be taken away from the hosts.
Capitalism at it's finest.

Bit of a warning. Most people think it's a disgrace that Qatar are hosting in but later on MuDD will come on here and argue in favour of it saying that it's western snobbery and we can't complain about the awarding of it due to the invasion of Iraq etc.
As if that excuses what is going on in Qatar now..

Now that is pressure or be it not vital.
How true are those Migrant death figures? Let's not forget the propaganda from our media to belittle and ridicule other country when hosting events.
1 person dying is bad enough I realise that but because of the world cup improvements have been made to migrant workers.

That's not really an answer is it?

Most of these figures have been accumulated by organisations like Amnest & Human Rights Watch. Remember the figures only represent about 33% of migrant workers there, so if the ratios are correct then we are potentially looking at around 2500-3000 workers killed since 2012.
Even if the figures were more conservative, they would still be to extreme and not acceptable.
The World Cup needs to be hosted in all parts of the world including the Middle East.
Qatar promise to rebuild WC stadia in other parts of the world.

Don't really need to answer something that is out there and easily researchable.
Human Rights groups are doing the research. The same human rights groups that are fighting on behalf of Palestine. So i'm sure you can agree that it's a worthy cause.
The World Cup needs to be hosted in all parts of the world including the Middle East.
-----------------------------------------------
The problem isn't the Middle East part. It's the thousands of deaths of people being worked to death. That would apply to England, USA or Australia if the same was happening for them building World Cup stadiums.
England wouldn't qualify past the group stages if we hosted it either.
Of course there isn't. Once FIFA award a tournament they don't give a sh 1t about anything, as long as the tournament is delivered on time
-----------------------------------------
That's unfair. FIFA go to considerable lengths to guarantee that host countries honour their contractual obligations to the sponsors.
They might turn a blind eye to bribery and the odd few south Asian workers making ketchup on the pavement or having heart attacks aged 22, but they sure as hell won't let local businesses cut into the legitimate profits of the corporate members of the football family (TM).
I'm in two minds about it really. It shouldn't have been awarded in the first place but that's done now.
In terms of the issue with workers, on the one hand it could be argued that the flagship event of football shouldn't be held somewhere with the human rights issues it has. The flipside is though that it is events like this that tend to accelerate change as the spotlight is firmly on them.

Absolute rubbish!
Most modern countries apply rigid Health & Safety policies to construction.
We don't take passports off migrant workers or prevent them from going home if they want to.
We don't deny them medical treatment or help if they are injured at work.
The Arab culture is totally different to other countries and if it was not for the power of their money that more has not been made of these injustices!

It is the first time I have contemplated boycotting a world cup.
Sometimes we have to take a proper stance, not just make a few disgruntled noise then join in the fun, once it kicks off.

I'm having trouble finding a source from HRW which displays these figures? I don't want a link from a British tabloid.

Is it still happening in winter??
If so it is a complete joke by FIFA. They are as corrupt as our government.
