Ringu really highlights the difference in creating dread
compared to cheap jump scares Hollywood wants to put out each week. Ringu stuck with me for ages. That feeling....its ugly and exciting at the same time.

Horror films are boring, just don't interest me at all.

Used to love reading horror novels when I was a bit younger though. Books are much better for the genre, a good writer can really build up a sense of dread and foreboding rather than just cheap shocks you get in films.

I can see what youre saying but feel you are just watching bad films if you say theyre going for cheap shocks. Horror films are not all boring and if they dont interest you does that mean you dont bother watching them but still label them boring?

I agree with you and Forza the literary form is much better...but also a different art form.

Less horror and more nightmare.

Sometimes directors have such a pure and insane vision that it truly does feel like watching a nightmare. Those are amazing experiences.

i class David Lynch movies as horror

they are so unsettling

Absolutely. I still find the homeless guy behind the diner to be the scariest seen I have ever scene.

Actually...in all of the best horror you will get moments that are so beautiful in contrast that you realize when you are dealing with someone of great talent. Lynch is defo one of them.

i find the longer storytelling form of the written word better suits a sense of dread n impending doom.

-------

Spot on. Darkened room, storm outside, immersion. Love it

I was almost struck by lightning 10 years ago. Crazy electrical storm. It struck ground about 70 yrds away but basically made my flinch to the ground and I felt the heat from it. I ran inside after.

The ones I've seen are boring, and I prefer watching other types of film tbh.

Any recommendations for a good one? May try and get into a few after exams are over...
