I agree they should be able to what they like, but you can't expect people not to get on his back when he doesn't perform, for what, 4 or 5 months(?) and then decides he's above the club.
As the poster above said, it's a bit different when you've been in good form for a few seasons culminating in a period of sustained greatness where you've almost singlehandedly dragged a team along, like Bale had.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I expect people to get on his back, he has been shocking since all of this broke and he hasn't handled it well but he is a kid, it is his agent/advisor's that have screwed him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I expect it is the agent most at fault, but at the same time, his agent isn't controlling his performances on the pitch, or his smoking habits, or his wish to have a rest mid-season. At least I'm guessing it isn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would agree his agent has played a major part in this but Raheem is not blameless either.
As GT said he is young and we all make mistakes when we are young but in the same sense not all of this can be laid at his agents/advisors door.

People saying cut your losses and get rid of a player who wants out are being naive or wishful.
------------------
And if Sterling had played anything close to even average over the last 3 months, I would agree with you. He has offered next to nothing in that time though. Next season would be awful if he started off in the same manner. The crowd would be all over him, there may even be friction in the dressing room if it is perceived he isn't doing what he can. City sadly aren't really a rival at this stage, I would happily sell to them for 40 million this summer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would take your hand off for that amount.

or his wish to have a rest mid-season.
---------------
My understanding is that it had nothing to do with Sterling. The medical team had noticed a drop in his stats that they evaluate and said he needed a break.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If that's true then I take it back. But we were already made aware of his wish to have a rest from England, so it would have been consistent with that, and indeed his general level of application over the last few months.
I know he's young and all, though so is Kane, and let's face it, Kane is how you'd wish Sterling would act on and off the pitch.

I think we were damned if we do damned if we don't regarding resting him.
If we hadn't, his current form would have been blamed on us burning out a kid and 'ruining' him.
We did rest him and it's some crime apparently.
Both Bale and Sterling are your typical modern players, a bit of success over a season or two, and they think they are too big for their respective clubs. Frankly neither has my respect for the way they wanted/want out at the first sniff of a thinking they have morphed into Pele or the like.

I suspect most pundits, even those seen as negative to Spurs, viewed Bale as a much more rounded and complete footballer than Sterling who to be fair, is not the finished article.
Not sure he is worth £5.2m a year yet nor am I convinced, even with the English tag, he is worth the millions being bandied around. Personally, I don’t think the boy is ready to move on and if Pool were prepared to invest that sort of money in his wages I would advise him to stay as well. If he doesn’t do pressure well and some of his actions suggest it, I’m not sure he will thrive at a new club knowing he has cost an arm and a leg and is being paid shed loads of money to boot. I guess you also have to wonder if his new team mates will take to him knowing the above.
Is there a poster out there that would turn down a big money offer from another employer with better prospects?

It's not like the 'old' days, Weare. Players look out for themselves first and foremost, and so they should.
it's not like Sterling is a born and bred Liverpudlian, is it? Very rarely have there been players who stayed, when they could have left for better.
I'm ready to be proven wrong, but like a fair few others....I have seen enough from Sterling to suggest he's anything exceptional. He has pace, and has that fearlessness that some younger attacking players have - some have already mentioned Walcott, Townsend etc.....
I think now is the perfect time for Liverpool to let him go. He wants out, and if they get anything over 30mill for him I think that's well over his true value and they've done well. From what I've seen of Ibe, he seems to have more potential anyway, so they're in a win/win really.

This is everything I hate about the modern game and players
Zero loyalty or care of duty towards club , fans etc etc
Why does he need to leave Liverpool to become a success, why cant he stay and help make Liverpool great again ?
Easy route for so many modern players that want to play for the best , not against them
Do we really live in a world now where Liverpool , Tottenham, Arsenal Everton, etc etc have to sell their best players to the very biggest clubs and then never make it back to being at the top themselves
Sterling's attitude stinks of greed and a lack of class from him and his agent, but in the modern games , whos really surprised
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Spurs players should stay at Spurs and be jeered each time they make a bad pass by our shitttty unsupportive fans

Even that wouldn't help. I don't think Sterling is leaving for money, I think that is just a side part. If it were just about the money, he'd stay as they've offered him a fúck ton...
Do you think Ronaldo should have stayed at United for the rest of his career and maybe won another CL, and more titles?
Or do you think him going to Madrid was the right call?
people crack me up as if he shouldnt move ffs, course hes gonna move if he can get better pay along with better chance of silverware at another club ffs

Chronic, we have some of the best fans in the country who have put up with paying the same prices as Arsenal for last 20 yrs whilst being fking sh-it
every right to complain

We have some of the best away support but our home support is amongst the worst in the league. Along with the nonsense that is posted on the hundreds of Spurs forums out there

Same for most clubs in the league to be fair.
OT tends to be loud for the start and 5 minutes after half time, and when we score.
Else, you'll be listening to the away fans.
Away fans > home fans.
I have been to loads of Spurs away games and most home crowds are quiet but what you don't get is the home crowd turning on the team as easily as the Spurs crowd do.
That's what makes whl worse
