And what are these dirty tactics the club have employed you mention. The one where journalist ask ex pros their opinion . Are you implying the club has called each ex Liverpool player and non Liverpool player like learn matt le tissier Charlie nicholls Rodley marsh harry redknapp to say bad things about him.
------------------------------------------------------

If we were not aware that Sterling had not signed a 100k contract put in front of him and instead concentrated on changing his mind behind the scenes then we would not be talking about this and neither would ex pros.

Saying this is the best club for him to develop is rubbish, its not if he want Man C he would play and be playing with better players, therefore he would develop more, if he went Chelsea would fight for a 1st team place with top players working under a top manager, same with Arsenal.

This is Rodgers we're talking about. Only a matter of time before he comes out with some nonsense.

can you not see anything wrong in the comments from Rodgers below? These were made in January but it appears are totally untrue given the fact that Sterling was never "close" to signing a contract?

Why make these comments if not true?

-------------
Last week Rodgers said: "It is something the club are speaking with his representatives on and I would think that would be concluded very imminently.

"The player is very happy. It (the delay) is nothing to do with Raheem, he wants to be here so hopefully we get the solution on that very soon."
---------------------

Agree with what righteous said regarding blame on both sides,

Has Sterling always had this advisor?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Right those comments were made in Jan'. Sterling didn't inform the club he wanted to leave until we played Chelsea in May.

Do you know what was happening with negotiations in January?

posted on 21/5/15

Don't think so Jolly.

This guy Aidy Ward worked for a company but is now going it alone and taking some players with him.

Berahino, Sterling and the Ox apparently.

"So who would he get in the first 11 ahead of at either Chelsea or City?"

He's better than Willian. At City he's better than Milner and possibly Nasri. Arsenal he'd play on the right.

Personally, as a Gooner, I'm not too keen on signing him.

posted on 21/5/15

He's poor on the right though.

He's good on the left and very good centrally.

Chelsea could use him on the left if they intend to move Hazard into a 10 role.

He could compete and get plenty of games on the left for City with Nasri, and Silva in field.

Arsenal looks like the worst move for him to me as you have lots of left side/central players.

I don't know Milner, Navas, Nasri, Willian, Oscar

He is up there with these players and the fact he is only 20 or 21 means he should improve

----------------------------------------------------------------------
No .... Do you?

I may well be totally wrong but what i'm saying is that it appears to me (from the comments/sequence of events) that Sterling had no intention of signing a contract at that time, hence the comments from Rodgers 6 weeks after those January comments stating that Sterling would not take part in any more negotiations until the end of the season.

You then got the comments from Brendan about the "fantastic offer having been made followed by Sterlings denial about being a moneygrabber.

Now this (probably off the record) disaster by Ward.

If you have a different opinion then fine but justing giving my own view.

Everybody to take a share of the blame but how does it move on from here?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No bit Rodgers was.

How do you know Sterling didn't say he was going to sign in Jan'?

6 weeks, it's a long time. Lots could happen in
6 weeks.

"You then got the comments from Brendan about the "fantastic offer having been made followed by Sterlings denial about being a moneygrabber."

£100,000 for a 20 year old isn't a fantastic offer?

The PR fallout from the press conferences and tactics for Sterling and Berahino are nearly identical.

This agent has 2 clients (Ox might make 3 soon) and both have supporters who now think they're tw%ts.

Full marks for consistency for the agent.

His agent is Aidy Ward. He already has Berahino as a client and we have already seen the grief he gave the Baggies. It is rumoured that Oxlade Chamberlin is to join his agency so no doubt Arsenal will have to contend with similar antics soon. Ward seems to be cut from the same cloth as Sky Andrews who helped turn he whose name cannot be spoken into a pariah at Spurs. Cant just blame the agents and players though. The clubs have been complicit in using agents to pry targets away from other clubs so they all deserve what they get but ultimately, it’s the fans what pay!

Who do we think leaked the £100k a week offer that was rejected 2 months ago? As another poster said, who do we think recently leaked the £200k a week offer to DDG?

The club had a lot to gain by painting sterling as a greedy git who had ideas above his station (a line dutifully trotted out by barnes); i don't see what the player had to gain by leaking that info, if his agent wanted to alert city or chelsea he could have just given them a call.

Leaking he's turned down the £100,000 offer would let other clubs know the kind of wage he's after. Who would want other clubs to know this, his agent or the club?

Wouldn't giving other clubs a call, before a transfer request but the other clubs at risk of being accused of tapping him up? The press would be a good tool to let other clubs know he wants to leave.

Firstly Spurs fan in peace and I know the subject has been done to death but I wanted to put my point across.
I have never seen a player be so pressurised to sign a new contract, its like Liverpool are out to simply shame and force Sterling to sign a new contract and have used every dirty tactic to do so.
Don't get me wrong from fans view i can understand people turning on him, but Brendan and people associated with the club (ex players) have basically painted Raheem in a bad light to put pressure on him.
****
Absolute hogwash. People have been asked their opinions and have given them honestly. What? You expect pundits to decline to answer a question just because they don't want to look like they are putting pressure on Raheem?

we really think that clubs contacted by agents report them to the FA for a kind of reverse tapping up? really? all the top clubs tap up, i can't remember the last club to get in trouble for it.

and we think sterling has the wit to get his agent to leak a figure, then go to the bbc to paint himself as not motivated by money? to me it makes much more sense that the club, having presumably failed to entice sterling with simple money, resorted to a bit of public shaming, knowing that predictably enough every fan would scream that a 20 year old turning down £100k a week was obscene.

to me this whole thing should be fairly simple - player who has been at club for 5 years (i've had one job that lasted 5 years), where club has won 1 trophy in 9 years, and been in the CL once in 6 years, feels that he will play more big matches at another club, and wants to leave.

Not entirely sure who it benefits for the club to "play hardball" and insist that he stay with them, if he really wants to go get a good price and move on, this whole performance does no one any good.

Only article I have seen worse than this one today was also by a Spurs fan. This one makes twice as much sense as the first. The first made no sense at all.

Sorry had to shoot off to pick up kids etc

I seriously won't entertain going g back and finding quotes by BR as that isn't the debate I was having or wanted. Frankly not that important and I find it pointless in the main. Its all there for those who wish to see it.

All I know, and I stand to be corrected as I simply am going by I what I read, is that the first I heard about this saga was BR in an interview. If I recall this lead to sterling this n giving an interview as he felt he was being painted as a money grabber. So he obviously felt that.

Funny that.

The amount of people I've seen say the club/Rodgers are to blame/have handled this poorly/have said this that or the other.

Yet when asked what the club/Rodgers have said exactly no one can come up with anything.
