Yep. Brilliant film. It's over 2 hours, at the end I was sat there saying wtf wheres the rest of the film it's only been an hour it went that quickly for me.

Non spoilery review:

The rebels discover the existence of the Death Star, unaware how far a long it is they try to disrupt the construction, before discovering it is completed and go after the plans.

This is saving private Ryan meets a new hope, it's dark and we see some interesting takes on moral positions.

In this film it feels like war, and you feel the desperation of the rebels.

Don't really like the lead actress but the rest of the cast are really good with some nice comical relief coming from a somewhat unexpected place.

The quickest 2 hours I've had in a cinema in a long time. A must watch for a Star Wars fan.

Just watched the full trailer for Dunkirk, think it will be a brilliant film.

Why is Harry Styles in it, does anyone know?

Surely nowhere near as gruesome/violent as Saving Private Ryan ? I'm thinking that opening scene on the beach.

You'd be surprised. As far as any SW movie goes this is darker than all of them put together and then some

Just got back from my first viewing of Rogue one and what a stunning moving picture. The next comment I assure you is not hyperbole, Star Wars Rogue One is on par for me with Return of the Jedi and New Hope.

***********SPOILERS BEWARE*******************

Where do you start with this stand alone movie that feels every bit a star wars movie but without the burden and the expectation that force awakens was shackled with. It's dark, it's visceral and it's less star and more war. This movie is helped by the fact that the script and the final outcome have already been predetermined and it can focus instead on the strong themes and character relationships that are integral to the success of this film. They really explore the struggle and the torment that war brings not just to those around you but to you as a individual. We see characters being forced to make decisions that they don't necessarily want to be making but they are forced to. The empire really feel like an oppressive and destructive force with shades of Naziii Germany very prevalent throughout and beware, stormtroopers in this movie actually can hit the target. Vader has two scenes in rogue one and I kid you not, they are spine tingling especially his final scene when we see him tear through the rebel troops. What I really enjoyed about this movie however was the perspective it showcased. It showed us a side to the star wars universe that we have never seen. No lightsabers, no protagonists that are core to the saga, no hero's swooping in and saving the day, this showed us how in war, death touches whoever it wants. I liked the humour provided by K2SO,Krennic was a terrific villain, Tarkin was truly sadistic and Vader was everything you expect him to be. Visually, it was breathtaking, the scene when the AT-AT walkers come through the trees was stunning and SPACE BATTLES, finally we get to see an X wing go toe to toe with Star Destroyers and tie fighters.

My thoughts are still all over the place so forgive my lack of coherency. Overall this movie for me signifies a paying homage to the men and women that were part of the galactic war against the empire in the original saga's but were overshadowed by Luke, Han and Leia. This was a movie that gave us an insight into just how evil the empire were and how hero's could be found in almost everyone. Note, there were some nice moments in the movie that gave a nod to the originals. For a Star Wars fan, I'd say this movie will take you to a place that only Empire Strikes Back may have taken you to. The only issue having only watched it once, is how non star wars fans react to it. This isn't you typical star wars movie, you need to understand the originals to really grasp the significance to rogue one. Non star wars fans may come out of this movie having felt let down and underwhelmed. I liked how they tied everything up at the end to to give a New Hope the baton and seeing Vader in that bacta tank on Mustafar made my balls shudder.

A solid 8/10

all that...& you give it 8....

But 8 is a good score no?
Very rare you give out a 10. And sure, there are gripes with this film, and so 8 is fair enough.
For me, I agree about an 8. Maybe my reasoning my be different to others, but it's a Brilliant solid 8.

Now the 8 is an average, right. But there are moments, of Jaw dropping, worthy of instant iconic status!
No hyperbole, just the facts

Last 2 mins is a 13 imo. As a fan that ending is about as good as it gets.
