Have United improved or not?
======================

Outside view? I definitely think United have improved.

Players seem to play without the fear that Moyes so kindly instilled in them.

Hoping we can put one over you though...

Our midfield has improved.

The rest hasn't.

What will also have improved is the understanding between the players from last year.

I would also say Smalling's durability has improved as well as he was available for selection much more often last season. I do hope that he will be the first CB down on the team sheet.

The addition of Depay, Darmian and MS will also add a bit of freshness and energy to the team which is in addition to the winner's mentality that BS has.

Call me crazy but I am still optimistic for this season even with the current DDG situation playing out today. We may even see more attacking football if LVG thinks the best form of defence is attack.

Manchester United haven't learned their lesson from this Di Maria episode, we are feigning over Bale like some lost puppy, he has made it abundantly clear he has no desire to join United.

Also feel Van Gaal is more at fault for Di Maria leaving.

Would swap Van Gaal for Klopp

I'll agree with that

How hasn't the defence improved? De Gea is still in the squad. Darmian is much better than Valencia. Shaw will have a full preseason under his belt. That's definitely better.

Darmian hasn't kicked a ball in England yet so is an unknown quantity

We have spent well over £200m post Fergie & other than our central midfield, all other options in our team are worse or at best not improved on the 2012/13 team.

Its a disgrace the way we have spent money on average players to make up for lack of investment in previous years and Im not a fan of LVG's tactics either.

I doubt DDG will be staying. Darmian is good but we needed to improve the central defence and we haven't.

I think Smalling and Jones are good players and rate them more than some other posters but they are injury prone.

No, he's still a much better right back than Valencia.

Robb

So you agree it has improved then?

posted on 7/8/15

We shall judge it with results and performances. I say we are in a much better position then we were a year ago in terms of preparation.

No, because I feel DDG will go. If he stays then it's improved a slight bit but not as much as needed.

Fergie is one-off

LvG in my view will not going to have the same impact I am afraid...

I am not sure about Klopp either.

United needs solid characters

Aye but he's still here.

You'll probably be proved right about this, I just tend not to predict things like that, small chance he may not be suited to PL

posted on 7/8/15

Indeed he is but there is a good chance he'll go.

If he does and we get Lloris then I think we've improved from next year. Though if LVG does what he says and plays Blind in CB and Valencia actually is his first choice then it hasn't.

Ask me in September!

We already have a lot of players who can play Klopp's pressing game. We have Rooney, Young, Memphis along with Januzaj and Perreira in the forward positions. Mata will not really suit that kind of football though, but if we get Pedro, then that would be even better.

For midfield, Herrera and Schneiderlin would be perfect for that type of football along with Shaw and Darmian from the full back positions. Fellaini, Carrick and Schweinsteiger will not suit the pressing game, but Carrick or Schweinsteiger can just sit at the base dictating play.

As of now Robb DDG is a United player. The defence has improved.

posted on 7/8/15

True VC. And like I said, if he stays our defence will have slightly improved.

posted on 7/8/15

The team has clearly improved....unless DDG leaves, with no top players brought in, and then it is debatable.

The problem is that the other clubs United could realistically catch - City and Arsenal - have also improved, and frankly look a bit more stable than United too.

More worryingly, I think Liverpool have improved more - both Ings and Benteke last season scored more goals than all Liverpool's strikers put together - so I still think a scrap for 4th is far more likely than a title tilt.

There is no indication he is going to go. We are not hearing anything from Real.
