Maybe we should have kept Solbakken for the 3 years Gene suggested then! If relegation to Div3 was so good for us being in the Conference would have done wonders for us!
Joking aside as we would, at worst, have been in the Championship with a side incapable of promotion if we hadn't gone down and we are now in the Championship with a side incapable of promotion what, in your opinion, did we gain by going down?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The club was dead from the inside, it had to be cleared out completely, Kenny had the balls to do what solbakken and to a lesser extent Deano wouldn't do.
Never known anyone with the ability to dig up the past. Not sure whether he's Burke or Hare.
The former might be appropriate.

So the worst situation if we hadn't been relegated was that those players would have seen out their contracts and left and we would be on the Championship minus them?
Whereas now, having been relegated, we are in the Championship minus them as they left when their contracts were up.
Yes, I can see the point you're making and just how much better off we are!
We would still have either solbakken or Deano for a start tats.
I would take Kenny over either of those.
We wouldn't have a whole host of up and coming young talent in the side either I doubt.
We are far better off now than if we scraped survival two years ago.
The club was not dead in any way. We all know that if McCarthy or Jackett had been managers that season rather than Solbakken and Saunders we would have stood much more chance of leaving the Championship from the top than the bottom. What we saw that season was how big an impact there is between good managers and poor ones. And if Mick or Kenny had been given £13m to spend on their own choice of players then we would have been nigh on promotion certainties.
Yeah DJ, but yet players like Doyle, margreitter and Edwards and a guy from the board all suggest differently.
I shall stick with Dave's view rather than yours ta
I don't remember Doyle ever saying relegation was a good thing and Magreitter just wanted to moan about his team mates rather than do anything to earn a place in the team. The member of the board you mentioned was sacked around the time we were promoted.
Maybe, just maybe, if we'd just appointed someone competent rather than Solbakken we could have sorted things out without relegation and might be back in the top flight now.
Even if we were still in this league I can't see how we could be in a worse position now. All the players you mention would still have been gone and we wouldn't have wasted over £10m on Solbakken's signings.
They wouldn't have gone though, we had to reboot and that wouldn't have happened if we would have survived.
I am surprised you are so negative given what we have seen the last two seasons from top to bottom at the club.
As for Doyle, he spoke of players not wanting to adapt to a managers ideas, now I don't care if it were a feckin talking horse, you do as the manager asks or you are a cant.
Unfortunately we had already seen the players quit the season before, so it was not a new phenomenon under solbakken.
Doyle and Edwards are model professionals that would always defend their managers, no matter what they really thought, that's why, amongst many other reasons, Wolves fans always speak highly of them, unlike you cinci who of course is much more likely to defend Wolves failures like Solbakken

Of course they'd have gone they would have been out of contract. Do you really think we'd have re-signed them?
I agree they should do whatever is asked of them even if it is a talking horse doing the asking. Just a shame we didn;t appoint a talking horse 'cause I think we'd have stayed up under Mr Ed.
I always think of Alan Brazil when I hear Mr ed.
Ah, so just being pros of course, makes you wonder why that view point would have even come up though.
The more likely reason of course is that there were issues behind the scenes, and lets be honest, that isn't exactly a secret is it.
We saw Hennessey square up to captain fantastic in one game, nowt like showing respect is there, but I guess he never earnt the respect and was a huge part of why the club imploded.
Whatever you think the problems were why couldn't they have been solved by appointing a competent manager instead of Solbakken OR by sacking Solbakken and appointing a decent manager instead of Suanders and not going down?
Imagine Jackett kicking off his career with us in the Championship and with £8m more to spend than he had last season.
In that scenario we would likely have 20 midfielders now tats
We DO have 20 midfielders
Wish Saturday would hurry up, we need to get on a roll
"We all know that if McCarthy or Jackett had been managers that season rather than Solbakken and Saunders we would have stood much more chance of leaving the Championship from the top than the bottom."
======================
Yet another example of pure speculation DJ. Something you're very good at, if I may say so. Go by what actually happened at our club is more relevant.
What Solbakken tried to achieve with the squad he inherited was possession football and not hoof ball. Unfortunately the players either couldn't do that or didn't want to change and that re-iterates what certain players at the time were saying. He tried bringing in players with a little flair and mixed them with what he had. Unfortunately it didn't work and the rest is history.

Solbakken brought possession football
No what Solbakken 'said' he bought was passing football. What he actually bought was the most boring clueless style of football seen at Molineux in recent memory.
Just remember that in his last few games in charge against the likes of Luton, Peterborough and McCarthy, our possession stats were worse than what that sensational manager Terry Connor achieved with an imploding team against the best possession team of the time in the Premier League, Arsenal

This is what I took from his post Bute...
"it didn't work" (there are usually three words in one of his rambling posts that actually make sense)
....all anyone needs to know about the Norwegian Blue's time in charge.
Anyway, seeing as Wolfie and co are reflecting on past managers, and possible scenarios, we could think back to the halcyon days of the Prem, and ask ourselves, "what is the worse that could have happened had we not sacked MM in the early part of February?"
My own view is that, even if we'd still been relegated, I can't possibly imagine him having taken the side down into Division 3.

I think we all agree with DJ, Wolfie, etc., that "it didn't work", sadly. Probably one of Solbakken's shortcomings is that he tried the wrong methods.
