imo the weak link in our starting XI
----------------------------------------------
He's one of them.
I'm not even sure that he isn't good enough however he is NOT a right winger and we won't get the most from him playing there. How can he play to his strengths when he doesn't exactly have much pace, great dribbling or even much of a right foot to cross?
If we played him regularly behind someone like Martial with good pacy wingers out wide I think we would see a different player.
It's wrong to expect Mata to be Ronaldo, Bale or Robben when he is not that kind of player. It's like trying to expect Blind to be like Rio or Cannavaro at the back. I think tactics and formations are as much to blame as the players.
Nobody expects Mata to be Ronaldo. I don't think he's a right winger either, but he has shown better form on that side than when playing through the middle for Man United.
Tactics and team selections are an issue, but so are the players. Mata included in that. But Rooney is the biggest problem, he's undroppable but is poor.
Rooney wasn't weak kink for 4-5 games he missed and we were still awful. In fact Rooney has missed most of December which is officially our worst on record.
He's been dreadful but so is everyone else bar a few.
Can't wait for us to sign Anderson and for him to consign Rooney to the scrapheap. Stretford will internally combust.
Next flop more like. Lvg doesn't deserve another penny and no way should we be chucking that kind of money on him. Latest s American flash in pan that's not even a regular starter for Lazio this season after falling out with their coach.
We buy him, its an absolute farce.
Van Gaal has purchased some good players in his time here, the problem has always been getting the best out of them.
SE does have a point about Rooney. Yes he has been utter sh/te this season, but our bad run of results has coincided with him not being in the team for most of it.
Mata has been a non entity for the last two months.
LVG doesn't deserve to be in a job. But let's not cut off our nose to spite our face, we need to sign more quality in the squad.
Just because you have an aversion to South American players doesn't mean we shouldn't sign them.
And continued when he was in it. He's the weak link because he's the captain and has stopped us moving away from him and signing a top striker.
When Rooney leaves we can move forward. Been the case for years. His presence at the club is holding us back.

Like who ?
Shaw and Herrera were already lined up.
Martial a good signing.
Rojo ,Darmian - Average
Memphis -Very disappointing
MS - More to come. Could be a good signing
BS - Should have given us more and still hopeful. great leader and loves United already.
Romero - Not good enough for a number 2
Blind - Good utility/squad player. Great passer and perhaps should play in midfield

He is a weak link that consists of a few.
Wonder how we'll do in the Swansea game. They haven't conceded for 3 games and were also excellent at City 4 weeks ago.
They'll come with a striker so I can't see us getting the ball given straight back to us like Chelsea gave it back to us.
Dropped points against Swansea surely has to be the end of LVG?

I agree with this now. I didn't used to and I also thought he would do well this season up front but his form has gone. Maybe never to really come back.
Even now Martial played wide so Rooney gets to play. We could have beaten Chelsea with Martial through the middle I suspect

Hard to understand this one. Why pay so much money mid-season for an inconsistent, out-of-form player who likely won't help us much this season?
Why not wait until the summer and try to get Mane or Mahrez who both look like better players? This certainly wouldn't in trying to convince anybody that we're actually not a desperate club with no sort of strategy in place.
How is signing an inconsistent unproven Brazilian winger the solution?
"Yes he has been utter sh/te this season, but our bad run of results has coincided with him not being in the team for most of it."
His absence hasn't been a contributing factor to that though. We've been just as poor when he has played and our offensive game has been poor throughout the season.

Considering LVG doesn't know how to beat Swansea, good money will be on another goalless draw or a narrow defeat.

True
Thankfully a lot of credit for those 3 Swasea defeats goes to Monk who is no longer there. He may have gone down hill near the end of his time there but he did very well at times.
Even though we are dogsh-t I think we have what it takes to beat Swansea.

Going by recent evidence we don't have what it takes to beat anybody.
We need a top striker to come in now.
Offer big money for Cavani or Lacazette or Higuain or even Vardy. I know Vardy stands out among those names as not quite a top striker but he knows how to score goals in England and IMO Leicester are our big rivals for top 4 and getting him helps us and hurts them. Offer big money.
On another note there are rumours Arsenal might be going for Hernandez. Imagine if he came in and scored a ton or goals for them. Imagine a Welbeck and Hernandez strike partnership

the fee i saw was €45m, or c. £33m. slap an extra £10m on and you can go after reus, or griezemann.
i don't know much about anderson, but what would worry me is that, even taking into account his age, he has only a single cap for the weakest brazilian squad in decades. oscar - yes, that oscar - has 40 caps, and i doubt people would be happy at dropping over £30m on him. and yet united appear ready to pay 50% more than bayern paid for costa.
it just looks ever so slightly like paying yet another full fee for a not quite top player (see also herrera, schneiderlin, mata, depay etc etc)

I know but out of hope I think tomorrow should be winnable. Although Swansea haven't conceded since Monk was sacked I think?
