hounslows,
This site is like a pantomime at times but where credit is due, you have to be honest - and that was a quality pass - and it is not always easy to get into a game like that straight away - and his did just that - at a crucial point .
chicken, you're entitled to your view and any observations you make.
even if we won 3 things this season there would fall outs on our board between our lot

Villa problems post O'Neill were the same as Celtic. Martin O'Neill, as good a man manager as he is, is consistently let down by transfer policy. Signings were poor. Signing expensive players at the time, on high wages with no real sell on value probably bar Young.

I wouldn't go that far Ace Face. I personally wouldn't want him anywhere near my team. However having read a fair few of his ex players autobiographies, I think it's safe to say many of his players would've ran through walls for him. Problem being, as will ol slobber chops is he completely overlooks the age, ability, longevity and personal traits of any potential signing. Criteria then, you ask? He could could do a job for us

"To all those who think Sugar saved us - you are naive - a consortium would have come along no question"
Question.
I don't recall a long queue of interested parties in 1991 ready to usurp the Sugar deal. Perhaps you remember who else was interested ...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't remember the intricacies of everything back then as I was only 7, but I was old enough to be told and understand what 'bankrupt' meant and that Sugar did save us back then. Nobody knows what another 'interested party' would have done with us so I'll take what Sugar did initially, regardless of what he did or didn't do after.
If I remember rightly the battle to take over was between him and Robert Maxwell who of course was later exposed for varying charges of fraud.
Dont take that as fact its a pretty distant memory now
I was 14 at the time and I remember Maxwell being in the mix to buy us.
Ace, ask Dim Tim might have the answer

Sugar actually mentions Robert Maxwell's bid in his book. Thank all Gods that he didn't get near our club. Better the devil you know!!
A mate of mine was doing a pick up from the oxford university press (part of maxwell's business empire) he was talking to a biker who was there on a wait and return job and waiting for the documents so he could take them back to london.the biker was sat in a chair reading a paper and had his feet on the desk.
The doors opened and in walked a load of suits,at the front was maxwell who looked disgusted and asked the biker how much he earned a week.the biker replied £500 and maxwell took out his wallet counted out a grand and said here's 2 weeks wages and you're sacked now get off my property.
The biker took the money winked at my mate and walked out.
Nice little earner especially as he didn't even work for him.
