LIVE: Great Britain EU Referendum

Time to band together as a nation and focus on trying to build a positive future. Regardless of how you voted, we all want this country to be the best version of itself that it can be, whether that be inside or outside of the EU. Now is certainly not the time to let minor squabbles drive a wedge between us.

One thing I would like to say though, to those throwing around the 'racist' label: the vote could not have been leave in many of the areas it was unless their was a significant number of immigrant/commonwealth votes in favour of Brexit. This isn't a white v black/brown/yellow issue. Most of my Muslim friends voted out.

Looking at the demographics, it's the pensioners who have taken us out, as predicted.

Hope they're going to muck in to help get the economy back on track...

Na they're all alright. They've got their pensions & houses paid for thanks to benefitting from being able to buy cheap property in their day.

They can sit back and watch it all go to shiite
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It'll still be the 'yoof' who are to blame when recession hits though

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was kinda hoping we could just dilly dally on the matter for a decade or two whilst they quietly move on...

Probably unrealistic really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The old people that lived through pre-EU and EU Britain you mean?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The old people who will probably lose the least from this, the old people who have a lot less worries for the future that will be worse for everyone else now...

Those old people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything is just speculation at the moment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty sure the markets and sterling are already suffering, its okay the leave campaigners are calling for calm discussion.

I'm not sure the plan extends beyond immigrants = bad and Britain = good, a fine slogan for winning votes but a terrible basis for a plan.

You mean the old people who fought in two World Wars to defeat tyranny and fascism.
Who fought to free millions of Koreans in the early 50's.

The old people who fought in The Falklands war.

The older generation who gave their lives so that all of us could live in a free country.

The issue of the democratic deficit aspect of the sclerotic EU institutions had been severely underestimated and worse ignored by the remainers. All the issues receiving the main focus of attention from the remainers, immigration, the economy etc all fall under the question of who rules the country. They did not understand this and have suffered a crushing defeat as a consequence. The issues of democracy and sovereignty were brushed aside as though they were not important or relevant. They accused leavers of being ignorant, uneducated and racist knuckle draggers to be ridiculed and scorned. You cannot expect to win people over by dismissing them in such a fashion.

As for the economic fallout the markets once they accept the result and their losses will in a few weeks or months stabilise and find a corrected level and we go from there. There will be many opportunities for a stronger economy to be created thereafter.

Pound and Euro both see biggest ever fall against the Dollar.

"Never seen anything like it. These are once-in-a-lifetime moves, bigger than Lehmans and Black Wednesday, and we haven't even had the result yet," said Joe Rundle, head of trading at ETX Capital.

...........................................

Those old people, lets say they are 19 in 1945 (so barely got to take part as they were too young)

They would be 90 years old now and that is the youngest.

So no I am not solely talking about people over the age of 90, there is such a small number of them I doubt they make a huge difference.

The large over 65 group in general which had nothing to do with saving us in WW2 though them certainly.

if remain had won, I would have accepted it and respected the vote as democratic and the will of the majority.

However remain supporters seem to just want to insult and denigrate those on the leave side.

By the way there are still many thousands of people still alive who fought in WW2.

Did any of the politicians have a plan? The remain plan was just plod on, the leave plan, erm..... This is the chance for the UK to drive forward or collapse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well the plan was to stay in the EU.

So for example all our trading agreements....

Already made, in fact most of the issues that arise from leaving the EU don't arise from staying in the EU.

The plan with remain was to not to leave and cause all these problems.

The leave plan seems to consist of causing all these problems and them umming and ahhing and figuring out how to solve them after the fact.

Its madness quite frankly.

But calmly, they keep mentioning this, they are going to calmly sit there and twiddle their thumbs as the problems start to come.

He sees the UK remaining as a key partner for European companies.

Don't worry Boris will soften them up with some clowning around before Farage takes them to the cleaners with his superior British heritage.
