I'm not suggesting that Obama being black is irrelevant to many. But it should be. Some people voted for him because he is black and others didnt because he is black. Why should this matter?
For our utopia of a racistless (made up word) we need to change me together and forget labels of colour, gender, sexuality, etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're right. It shouldn't. But it does. It always will. America is too racist institutionally for that to be overlooked.
Would a president say he is bald? No, because it is irrelevant. Why does someone need to say they are black or white. It should be irrelevant, it IS irrelevant. Yet, many seem to need this categorisation.
----
America has an extremely long way to go before race is irrelevant. Labelling gender makes sense to me given biological differences.

The reference to Obama is another case in point. How much opposition has the man faced in his entire 2-term tenure? On the basis that he's black. He's had some successes, granted, and whilst he will go down as one of the most successful presidents in American history, imagine what he could have achieved if Republicans (in particular) weren't so hell bent on opposing him at every turn. Because he's a black man.
That's simply not true, he's faced constant opposition because he is balck, just not from the balc community until recently.
He is also not the most successful presidient in history although he has done some great things that in time will reflect well on him.
But white middle America has hated him from the start, I'm talkign white trash hillbillies not liberal left white people here.
But many leaders of the balck community are very anti Obama because they feel while he is black that was enough for him, he's actually done very little to help them bar Obama care.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I said "one of the most successful".
And I specified the Republicans because I was talking about Congress, which the Republicans have a majority in... the people who actually block his initiatives. Let's be honest, the black community don't really have the power to do that. But you're right... on top of Congress, there is dissatisfaction with him within the black community. But again, I was referring specifically to him getting laws passed, whether they help black people specifically or not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
it's taken 7 years for the black community to really speak out against him. He's gotten a free ride from them for most of his tenure. I don't think he did it on purpose he proably felt he had to try show he was there to help everyone and knew if he was heavy on laws to specifially help the black community he'd be slaughtered.
I like Obama and do think in time the things he has implemented will stand well to him, but right now the US is such a divided nation it's hard to see this.
It's completely divided and the judicial system doesn't help. I'm referring specifically to Federal, State and (if applicable) Local laws. Not being American (thank God), I don't understand it all but there's bound to be frustration when the application of the law differs between States (e.g. gun laws) and Federal law doesn't always override a State law decision.
The law should be the law, applied to all citizens of a nation at all times. But I guess that's why we're having this conversation in the first place... because it isn't.

Just so that some of you numbnuts who have no idea about the USA other than what you see in the papers, here is a bit of perspective.
A lot of racism is not caused by white people. There is, for example, a TV channel called BET. This is Black Entertainment Channel.
Imagine what would happen if there was a White Entertainment Channel.
---------
Stupidest statement ever made on here.
So BET causes the racism, not white people?
This statement is an I do action of the era that Vidic lived his get days under. An era where racism wasn't such a big deal.
*indication of the era that Vidic lived his hey days under.

There are so many factors at play here.
Historic racial tension between the black and white communities in America.
Inherent racism within some elements of the police force.
Lack of gun control.
Large parts of the African American community glorifying gun/gang violence in their popular culture.
Nobody is disputing that all lives matter. However, the statistics show that black men are twice as likely to be a victim of a police shooting (in no small part due to the combination of reasons I've suggested above).
U.S law enforcement needs to acknowledge that there's a problem before we begin to see real change, and I would assume that a lot more could be done to improve relations with the black community (outside of the obvious that is 'stop shooting black people' .
As I white person, I think that if you see 'All lives matter' as a valid response to 'Black lives matter' then you are part of the problem.

Brilliant
"So BET causes the racism, not white people?"
Just to clarify. Racism is caused by people, not just white people.
Exactly Henry but look at the statement I was replying to. I had to bring myself down to Viddy's level.
Also, I have to say that slavery based on race has happened to black people only. Previous to this slavery was not based on race or skin colour. Initially, anyone could have been a slave regardless of their skin colour and anyone could have been a slavemaster too. 'Racist slavery' or should I say slavery depending on skin colour or race is a more recent phenomenon in the timeline of the history of slavery and has occurred only in some parts of Europe and in America. You had to be black to be slave in these two jurisdictions. It was illegal to commit white people to slavery.

The guy and his girlfriend were having an argument. Police went over. He became aggressive and threatened to spit on them. They use a spit hood. Spitting is disgusting.
Also they are simply restraining him. You can see that in the video. He's screaming like they've put him in a kimura
If people behaved, thete would be less police intervention.
Domestic violence, for example, or drunk fighting, mugging old folk etc.
That's what the cops said. Did you read the rest of the article? The article says the couple had a normal couple's argument. The cops went over to check it out. I'm sure the situation was explained to them in which case then they handled it the wrong way. I don't think the guy became aggressive for no reason. You expect the cops to leave you alone once they get an explanation. He should have stayed calm even in the face of unreasonable police action (if the cops aren't lying that is) but you can't deny this was handled badly.
All i saw was his girlfriend screaming and the boyfriend playing up to it when he realised what she was doing.
Latest shooting involved armed black guy, followed by riots and setting fire to petrol stations.
If only cops let gangsta's alone to rob and kill, eh.
Soooo unfairš

How do you know he was paying it? You are really biased. First you lap up the white cops story and now yoy are seeing things your eyes want to see.
If a black man is armed does that make him a gangsta blue?

Looks a bit excessive to me considering he hadn't actually committed a crime, do you not think there's any chance that they could be genuinely emotional?
Didn't he? He accepted the charges when taken to the station
That doesn't necessarily mean the offence happened before what we see on the video.
