Surely there's a difference between a creator and a religious text that people follow to the letter?

If one day an alien/god/creator comes to earth and someone comes up to him and says he didn't steal or have secks before marriage or eat pork or have gaaay secks etc the god might well be like 'I never said you couldn't do those things - man did'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Its no different to any manual that is written is it?

Where you work you have rules and guidelines no?

If your scenario of aliens in your OP is taken as being true then would they not have had some form of communication to ensure their "experiment" had rules. Even it were for kicks. Maybe they have a sense of humour?

Religious figures such as Jesus could have been their emissaries

I think the aliens qualify as God. A creator, a higher life form than ourselves. What else does one need to be considered a god? The aliens you describe would have definitely been viewed as gods a few thousand years ago
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I only really know about christian writings... But don't these religions all claim that our creator is also the ultimate creator of everything?

The situation in the OP would dispel that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

How so?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because the aliens did not create the universe, they would just have created us.

As you are probably aware, politics here in Northern Ireland has largely been founded on religious beliefs.

When a prominent DUP member condemned homosexuality a few years ago, she was criticised by many. I’ve copied a response which was printed in the local Belfast Telegraph newspaper at the time. It’s a good read:

A few years later she (aged 60) was involved in scandal after having an affair with a 19yr old

----------------------------------------------------------------------

snipped the post a bit... but the Iris affair is pure comedy... q-radios pi$$take every morning... still baffles me how they get away with it.

Theres a page on facebook called Literal Bible Man... he rarely posts these days but its in a similar vein... outstanding

What if we get so technologically advanced we create a new world which in time gets so advanced that they create their own, but their new world is actually our world and everything is just one big loop.

Think it was Hawkins who argued that time is a construct which had a starting and will have an end.
------------------------
others disagree though.

The "who created the creator" or "what happened before the big bang" questions seem to always point to the concept of infinity, which changes our idea of what time is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In physics isn't time a dimension and the limit of dimension tends to infinity?

What would Stuart Pearce do? -

The biggest problem with the laws, rules and customs provided in the Old Testament is that they may have been relevant for the time, but now look obsolete.

Putting century old laws into practice in a modern society will do nothing but quickly regress that society into a place it was when those laws were made. We are seeing something similar occurring in the Middle East whenever Sharia starts getting enforced.

Of course, there is wisdom (and great poetry) to be found in religious text, but ignoring the bad aspects would be intellectual blindness .

No sharia has been enforced in the ME and I personally believe that religion does get used for the gains and ends of some people. The Saudi regime and even the church are a testimony to this. I do believe people in the main view religion based on the practises of these institutions rather than religion itself.

There are in fact verses and passages within religious texts, often omitted or mistranslated by the powers that be to remain powers that be, that warn of this

I know!!

When I was younger (early 80's) our local council closed all the parks and the swings etc were tied up as "the Sabbath" was a day of rest.

To this day bar's, hotels etc in Northern Ireland are not allowed to sell alcohol on certain religious dates (Easter etc).

Goes down really well with tourists who may want a glass of wine with their dinner...

Zlatanariyan -

While no Islamic country may have enforced Sharia in it's totality (although interpretation of how the laws should be practiced differ from scholar to scholar anyway), several Islamic nations have implemented aspects of Sharia or Islamic ruling into the laws of the land.

No worry cool. If I'm feeling a bit thick at work I read these tweets and it always cheers me up. Don't know what he's on about 99% of the time. However, in the middle of all these garbled tweets he tweeted -
