Seriously, surely he must be itching to get back and prove us doubters wrong, it's not like any others since have done themselves any justice.
On a different subject. Rimini is the Italian Blackpool. The hotel I'm staying in has 20 squaddies and a hen party of 18 staying last night snd tonight, not a good mix
If Pearson was to insist on playing 442 then I'm amazed Jeff Hendrick was sold. Good deal I was told...inconsistent I was told. Yeah ok. Weak is what we are now. No replacement for him was a shocking piece of bisiness.
He should have been replaced Backo but £10.5m for him is good business and Derby of 3 years ago would have took £3.5m for him. You cannot keep a player who wants to go no matter how many times you bring it up.
Tommo...my cousin born and bred Derby. a Derby fan. Is kit manager at Brighton. Dale Stephens put in a transfer request just before transfer window shut. Chairman backed the manager and told him he was going nowhere. He was staying to get this club promoted. So whats the difference?
£10.5m was the difference
£10.5m is doing nothing as far as I can see.
I get the feeling that Pearson is dogmatic about formations and roles. If you look at his career it has either been success or cataclysmic failure. If he can't find players to bend to his will they have to play that way anyway.
Steve McClaren just took over the Clough side and made a few improvements. Clement took over from McClaren and made slight changes (not for the better) and Wassall went back to the McClaren way. Pearson appears to want it to be his side.
The other factor is that we don't seem to make many good signings despite the millions of pounds spent.
Is it keeping us out of a transfer embargo? Did it find Vydra? Your guess is as good as mine.
Spart,
I agree Johnson looked quality initially but none of the signings were improvements
I agree Spart. There is no bend in Pearson. Its his way or no way.
Tommo..i understand what u are saying dont get me wrong. But to sell Hendrick and not replace was a massive mistake for me.
Yet last season we were saying we had too many CM's when all were fit. But that was because of the panic but of BJ and JB due to injuries.
Is it time for us to move Hughes and Bryson on too? I don't know anymore, I just feel little attachment to any of them at the moment.
We appear to almost transfer neutral this season.Vydra at present costs about £1.5M per kick.
Johnson looked OK until he was suspended for picking up 5 bookings in about 7 games. Some of them pointless bookings for taking out players in none threatening positions. When he came back he didn't seem the same player. His distribution was never that good but he longer won the ball.
Odd that when he was suspended the next game was Hull away and I thought we didn't stand a chance without Johnson. We were in fact much better.
Until Thorne gets fit I don't see another midfielder who knows how to make a challenge apart from Johnson. Even if we returned to 4-3-3 we would still be lightweight with Hughes, Bryson and Butterfield. None of them has a natural defensive instinct, good though they might be at other things. We're very unbalanced and always look vulnerable down the middle.
Poor acquisitions during the transfer window Vidal. We all said we need someone to replace Hendrick as Thorne was out but Pearson seemed to believe otherwise. Thinking Johnson is the answer is the real triumph of hope over experience.
I don't think anyone thinks he is "the answer", Spart, but at the moment he might be an option. Saying we should have done different things in the past isn't the answer to our current difficulties either.
What's everyone's opinions on Pearson calling the players out in his interview? Should he have singled out individuals or right to criticise as a collective?
Praise in public, admomish in private. A cardinal rule of good management.
I like a manager to be honest. There is no point saying we played OK and that there were plenty of positives when it was just crap. That insults the fans' intelligence. I don't think it serves any purpose to lambast an individual publicly though. I thought Pearson's comments were reasonable.
Depends if it's constructive criticism, it wasn't a NC scathing attack on radio Derby.
I wonder how much in the way of feedback they give the players, I'd make Keogh watch himself dive in over and over and over Clockwork Orange style 😂
Any manager with any sense would buy Hughes.
Igor,
Talking to my dad about him this morning, he can genuinely be a pleasure to watch, but his stats aren't great even before his injury.
