if that continues it means we'll be going the whole season without Martin and almost certainly getting him back at the end of it, is that what we want?

What as ?

The importance is someone pragmatic enough to work on our strengths and address our weaknesses. Go back to 4-3-3 transition towards a 4-2-3-1 for more physical teams. 1 X DM 1 X box to box MF that can win the ball. Try and get CM back or loan to replace. Play football again, move teams around more get some steel in MF for the more Route 1 championship teams. It's easy I'll do it and I'm still learning to walk.
