Scotland relies on UK trade much more than EU trade
------
What figures you basing this on?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-38743532
Scotland's trade with the rest of the UK continues to be worth four times more than its exports to the EU, according to Scottish government figures.
Never got Irn Bru. 'Orrible stuff.
Outsells Coca-Cola in Scotland and a few Arab countries...
love this place, constitutional politics one minute, sugary sweet hangover cure the next...
I don't have a problem with another referendum btw, since they're now being taken out of the EU when more than 60% wanted to stay. But I'm sure most people can see through Sturgeon pretending she cares about the EU. Was impressed with her during the 2015 election but she is just an irritant now and a lot of people will feel the same. After the first ref and brexit one people just want to get on with it instead of having another even some people who voted for independence.
Cheers 8bit..
"The Scottish government said the increase in exports to the rest of the UK was driven by utilities such as electricity - largely from renewables - as well as gas and water"
So I guess if Scotland do gain independence and remain in the single market.. and Britain refuses to deal with the EU...
Britain will get its renewable energy from the commonwealth or USA?
Do you ever read articles before posting headlines?
Even before that increase, their exports to the UK was still about 4 times more than to the EU Why would Scotland want to lose two third of their exports, and who will that hurt more. Tariffs on 63% of exports or 16% it's not rocket science.
And why would we refuse to deal with the EU?
Because theyd want €60b divorce settlement perhaps?
8bit, you're thinking the status quo regarding trade will continue in the event of Brexit and Scottish independence.
This will absolutely not be the case. How many firms will relocate to Scotland to take advantage of tariff fee trade to the EU?
Also worth noting that trade between England and Scotland will suffer as both countries would no longer be protected by EU tarrif quotas.
House of lords select committee released a further report (unrelated to UK only trade) the other day.
Hardly an endorsement of the government's competence:

Gerry Adams was interviewed on Andrew Marr last Sunday and he made no apologies for the fact that SF were using Brexit as a vehicle to promote unification. Hardly surprising a politician takes advantage of a situation to further a cause.
Despite advocating a pro-EU stance, SF voted against the Lisbon Treaty down south (twice). Which is further evidence they’re not pro-EU, but are *happy* to be if it leads to a border poll.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair points, and I saw Gerry with Andrew Marr.....never miss it, after More😁
I await the SF persuasion for their thirty two county utopia, from the party aiming to break unionist barstewards😠
Using brexit to stir it up in Ulster or Scotland is dangerous and divisive, even if tactically astute, IMO.
Sf and SNP are wee mixers!
