66% of the French vote for the pro-EU candidate, putting the anti-EU candidate to the sword.
66%!
Puts to bed the above 'failing EU' belief of those above.
Or 11m people voted for someone with links to a fascist and racist organisation is another way of looking at it. I'm very glad that the French saw sense but it is still concerning that she gained more of the vote share going from the first to second round.
When Jean-Marie made it to the second round in 2002 Chirac wiped the floor with him. Maybe the FN will have it third time lucky with Marion.
Dean.
Bottom line, she didn't win, her policies were rejected. The French voted overwhelmingly for the pro-EU candidate. He'd be a fool to ignore the minority but he's already called for EU reforms.
The Front Nationale had been gaining ground over the past 12 years.
I'm glad the saboteurs from the East failed with their attempt to derail him as they had not understood the ban on electioneering/election reporting 48 hours before the vote.
Still, he has to put a government together now. Will there be any right wingers in there?
Hope we can take advantage of this..

I'm sure Europe will be tripping over themselves to give us a great deal that gives encouragement to other EU countries to leave....
So no freedom of movement for japan or canada hmm
The Japan deal is goods only, so would be pretty worthless to the UK seeing as services are something like 2/3rds of our economy... Hence why single market access (thus free trade for services) is so important...
That is a very unpatriotic attitude to take Dean...

Use the scale on the atlas you're looking at to realise how far they are from the UK.
Then factor in that Canada would like more people quite a lot more actually, and Japan has a culture way removed from anywhere in Europe.
Then realise how ridiculous your comment is.
Japan's and Canada's trade supply chains haven't relied on existing EU mechanisms for the last few decades.
Around 70 international countries have FTA's with the EU. All with various degrees of access to the SM.
None of them however have anything close to comparable benefits as being a member of the SM. Having access to, and being a member of the SM is like comparing apples to oranges.
The most comprehensive and wide ranging FTA in history would never deliver the same benefits as being a member of the SM.
Tories can't decide which was is out..
