Yes it makes sense. It means that the people you are debating with are like minded, ie have similar views to you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes lots of that on this thread. Go have a nap.

And managers, like politicians know criticism comes with the job. As does praise when you get it right, not to forget immense riches.

De Gea was never that bad even during his first season at Utd.

he was maybe a little weak coming for crosses but tahts it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you serious? He made much worse errors than Karius. I seem to recall a few long shots that he let in that should never have been allowed to go in.

None of this happened to De Gea. It's all CGI.

Pundits criticise a player not playing well and under the spotlight.

Manager defends the player under the spotlight.

Are we really seeing anything new here?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly a manager defending one of his players is nothing new. I can only guess that United fans think the way forward is criticising your players publicly to get them to up their game.

yes, because the reason the bbc have (predictably) created an article on this is because klopp defended karius.

his attack on neville, and questioning of his abilities as a pundit, were not the point at all.

though you should tell the beeb, they seem to have got the wrong end of the stick:

well, it is possible to defend your own player without then whinging about media pundits and questioning both their objectivity and their right to criticise in the first place.

so yeah, we are.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course it's possible but plenty of managers have questioned pundits before. When Jose called pundits football geniuses a few months ago, do you think he was praising them or calling them as thick as the proverbial pig droppings?

Ferguson ripped into Mark Lawrenson and said he was just there to self-promote (or words to that effect). Wenger told Neville to do some research (or put it another way, his job) after Nev called him arrogant.

It's part of the tension between pundits and those playing the game. Nothing new.

What's Klopp defending Karius from? Criticism from pundits.

What did lopp say about Neville that upset you?

posted on 12/12/16

Klopp hasn't done anything wrong in defending his own player, especially one that he signed, that's something you'd expect. It's also obvious that the media are going to criticise players performing well also, no matter who they have previously played for.

Jamie Redknapp at half time yesterday said it was poor goalkeeping from Karius for the Payet free kick, he's ex-Liverpool. Why does it matter what clubs they've played/managed at before as to who criticises who? It was a mistake from the goalkeeper again, picked up on by fans and pundits alike. It's what we do - it's part of a fans role in football to criticise player errors.

Not to mention, I'd rather listen to Klopp who see's Karius play and train everyday than Neville who watches him once a week usually and can't even hack a managerial job for more than 4 months.

Nothing upset me, I just found it lame and unnecessary. Also of course hypocritical, given that he laid into the nevilles, and then used carragher as an example of a pundit with no grudge against liverpool, ignoring the fact that carragher has been equally critical of the player in question.

the gk plays badly, pundits do their job and call him out on that, and klopp questions their objectivity and turns it into a liverpool vs united spat.

and of course we all know that if mourinho had said something similar there'd be a dozen articles on here accusing him of cracking up/losing the plot. someone mentioned saf and wenger, at least it took them a decade to start vendettas against the press, klopp's at it in 12 months.

If I'm honest, I'd have preferred he didn't say anything, much less stoke the fires of Liverpool v Utd. But what he said wasn't terribly important at the end of the day, it was just a visible defence of his player.

Btw - the media today isn't really comparable to the media when Ferguson and Wenger started! Can you really imagine Jimmy Hill responding to Fergie via instagram

Don

"Nothing upset me, I just found it lame and unnecessary"

It was unnecessary Klopp defending his player?

I don't mind Gary Neville as a pundit. The way I see it is Neville criticised Karius. Karius gave a bit back, then Phil Neville waded in unnecessarily last night on MOTD2, telling Karius to 'keep his mouth shut'. Of course Klopp was going to defend his player against the pair of them.

Is there not a good point when Klopp said that a former manager should know better than criticising young players so vociferously?

posted on 12/12/16

He may have changed his tune as it's quite embarrasing. It was reported that he refused to speak to the clubs own journo after WH, Everton and Zoroya.

Brilliant.

Agree with this.

This media pressure and criticism can be the reason young players fail to develop to the calibre they are capable of. We all saw and understood Karius made an error and did last week as well, I'm sure he knows better than anyone. But let him get on with it. If tis was somebody like De Gea or Lloris, it would be water under the bridge by now.

You would think that Klopp wouldnt have used Garys Valencia struggles consdering what happened to him at Dortmund in 2014.

I know Klopp has proved himself prior, but you would think that would make him think twice.

posted on 12/12/16

Like I said I was impressed with the way Karius cleaned out Carroll. I do think he has the minerals to get through this and I do not doubt for a minute he can play at a higher level. I doubt anyone on this thread does really but that's 606.
