so is a women meant to cover her face in public or not according to the quran
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I said there is a passage in the Quran where it mentions it
With regards to actually doing it there is a choice and recommended in certain scenarios and specifically not allowed in others
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no direct quote or text that mentions that a women has to cover her face in public.
The Quran mentions that both men and women should dress modestly but no mention of face being covered.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Read surah Al Noor verse 31 (Quran 24:31) and the tafsir, hadith and what ulema have said
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have read the hadith and again no specific mention that face must be covered.
Some scholars have interpreted to include face while some haven't. If you go by the text there is no mention of face.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Key word in that ayat is juyoobihinna
There also a verse in surah azhaab
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again it is open to interpretation as some scholars have said just private parts while some have said head and private parts and finally some have said private parts, head and face.
No direct quote to face.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I ask are you Muslim? I only ask as what you raised is easily addressed if you are
Have you checked the surah azhaab verse?

Yeah I did think so, jazakallahkhair for the clarification.
Not much for typing so to keep it simple.
Allah swt says in times of dispute refer back to Allah and his messenger. Also that the true path is the Quran sunnah and understanding of the sahabah. Allah swt also testifies for the Prophet saw and the sahabah ajmaeen
Now when stats were revealed the prophet saw would rely them and the sahabah ra would act upon them.
When the verse in surah azhaab was revealed the sahabiyaat (female sahabah) immediately covered their faces leaving only 1 eye visible.
The hajj verses said no face covering when doing hajj, because the sahaabiyaat covered their faces.
The issue isn't about it being fardh, and here ulema have differed. Buy it is simply not true that face covering isn't mentioned in Quran and hadith
the only view cosmic has is the jiggle ball view, he views them up his batty looking up in between his legs so he can catch them in his mouth when they slip out

From mirpur too.
Grew up in a Sufi barelwi mix most of my life. Started studying a few years ago and realised that much of the barelwi and deobandi beliefs are taken from Ashraf Ali thanvi and baheshti zewar book. Which contains some good but also a lot of nonsense.
Many issues today are based on people looking to find a hadith etc to justify a stance and manipulating it
Don't follow any sect or group now but been through a few in my time

it masks the face, a person's identity mustn't be covered by anything or for any reason (including culture/religion).
kash views on what? the ban? I dont know. Dont have any females in my family who wear the niqab/abaya. Have cousins who wear the hijab though.
to be honest, the muslim countries arond the world have laws in place that westerners abide by when they go there on holidays etc and you have to say the majority of the westerners do abide by the rules.
britain has done a lot for muslims.. we've got a muslim mayor for london!.. could you see that in a muslim country? A westerner becoming mayor of a city there?
so to that end.. whatever the country decides, whichever country it is, muslims should abide by it and respect it.

I agree with Mr C to an extent. Ban burka in public places (schools, hospitals etc) fine as long there isn't then a clamour to ban Hijabs etc.

Muslim mayor? Who sadiq khan? How is he Muslim. Asian sure
You know even Saddam Hussain's right hand man, Tariq Aziz was Christian
Also the issue isn't about a ban its about the reasoning behind it. Women are not supposed to cover their faces in certain environments. That part even Muslims need educating on
