I thought he was looking promising but I also think that period has been hugely exaggerated. The leg break seemed to really overplay how well Shaw was doing and would have influenced our season IMO. I still rate the lad but he has a lot to do.

I certainly agree he has a lot to do but I believe he has it in him to be a top player
Can anyone remember many occasions where Blind actually did much going forward this season?
If the answer isn't Shaw, it ain't Blind
All depends if he does mentally which I think is exactly the issue Jose has with Shaw right now. Hopefully he can do, he's clearly got a lot of talent.
Blind wouldn't have got near the lb position if Shaw hadn't broken his leg. Shaws form was that good.
Blind however has been the better option this season at lb.

It is based on Blind being able to defend better. Although he did have a bad day a few weeks back.
Blind also offers more going forwards.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know, although Shaw hasn't shown the level of consistency and composure Blind has, Shaw has shown (before his leg break) that when he's attacking he can be much more dangerous.
His speed and acceleration are exceptional.
The way he was attacking the flank was almost Evra-esque, the way he dribbled into the box at speed which unfortunately was part of the reason he hurt himself.
Blind is better defensively at the moment but one thing Shaw has over blind, is being able to recover with his speed.
Blind is another one who I feel people just assume regularly offers a lot offensively because he has occasionally in the past. His set pieces and crossing in general has actually been poor in recent months. I feel like his first half performances against Leicester has convinced many that he is a real threat for us when the truth is he's done very little since.
If he was really as effective as many seem to think then he would surely be playing far more often than Darmian or Rojo.
I hate Blinds corners, I'd say 7 out of 10 go higher than the main stand and take an age to come down.
Ironically it was Shaw getting forward into a great position which got his leg broken

They're so bad, but he seems immune from criticism when it concerns his delivery for some reason? I'm happy he's a part of our squad but still think many vastly overate him just because he's an intelligent player.
I think Shaw must have an attitude/mental problem.
All he seems to have done wrong is not close down a Watford player in the lead up to a goal.
Don't know what else he has done wrong performance wise.

We can't keep talking about Shaw before his leg break. That was a year and a half ago.
We can only talk about how he has played since, which had not been that good.
I agree with 1982 in that this could all be a mental problem. If so he needs to get over it. Apparently Jose is now happy with his fitness issues, so that is a start.
VC.
The fact Jose states that physically Shaw is fine is, IMO, a challenge to him to actually show mentally he can play for United. Many have had the ability but a lot have fallen by the wayside because they couldn't cope at such a massive club.
Luke shaw has never been good going forwards. He is quicker so he is more exciting but his end product is not good enough. It wasn't before the injury either.
He's a solid defender though. Better than rojo, Darmian at left purely for his defending qualities and speed.
His game with the ball at his feet is severely lacking though. Blind is a far better footballer.

It isn't the big club mental issue, it is the broken leg mental issue imo.

Yes, of course, the leg is a factor. I just think though that at Southampton he'd have been able to ease himself back in. At United though he's expected to be much more than a defensive player.
The broken leg was horrific though. Perhaps Jose has secretly been asking a few of the players to go in hard on him in training and he's only just responding positively now? He does need to step it up though as he shouldn't really be behing Darmian and Rojo in the LB pecking order.

It's a good indicator of his potential though and his form before breaking his leg is the only thing that gives me hope that he'll become a great left back.
I agree he hasn't been good enough since but I certainly think that Rojo, Darmian and Blind haven't reached the level has was at.
Hopefully he can recapture that form under Joses guidance, he's an exciting talent.

He hadn't really reached a level. It was still potential.
He has never been as good a defender as Blind who is now in his peak years.
