I'm not a Muslim and eat Halal all the time. If anyone cares about the welfare of animals, then they should just avoid eating meat altogether rather than pretend that they care about the method in which the animal is killed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. People are so full of sh-t when it comes to Halal - it's pretty much never about the method of dispatch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A bit of a sweeping statement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, less flippantly - I'll clarify. I strongly feel that if the practices conducted in your average slaughterhouse were given as much media exposure as those of Halal slaughter, people would either stop eating meat or shut up about Halal being so "inhumane".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe it's down to the company you keep, because I don't know anyone who'd be happy eating meat knowing the animal had suffered. I don't care what anyone says, stunning an animal is for more humane than slitting the throat of animal whilst it's conscious.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you do know halal and kosher meat gets slaughtered the same way. Yet you have a problem with the way halal meat gets slaughtered but ok with kosher meat
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Where did I say I'd eat kosher? I'm opposed to both.

I'll happily admit to not knowing much about the whole Halal thing, but from the bits I do know it seems pretty cruel.
Happy to be educated but it seems a slow and torturous way to go for the animals.
(Disclaimer - I'm not a flower child and have hunted, skinned & cut my own meat to freeze a few times before, nor am I a racist or against Halal. Just a curious person).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What bits do you know then? The bits that tell you it "seems a bit cruel"?

There's honestly no different in taste between halal meat and normal meat
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is that true? I'm in a country where you can only buy halal meat and it is very flavourless, especially the beef. Is it because of the process or they just have poor quality meat where I am?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing is quite as delicious as a medium rare tbone steak with a bit of the blood still there. Cook it just long enough so it's warn right it the middle.
No idea if Halal style would be nicer or less so. At all.

I was working, and if you read back I had already said I was against both forms of slaughter. You really should keep up.
Let me ask people a question.
IF you have eaten or eat meat and you were on a farm how would you kill a chicken?

That it has to be blessed I believe, that the blood has to be drained from the throat and that the animal is conscious and aware at the time and does not go instantly.
If any of that is wrong I'd certainly be interested in knowing so + what the truth is.

Could be anything from type of stock to nutrition, poor preparation, poor storage - how it is killed will be pretty far down the list, I suspect.
As I understand it, adrenaline makes meat tougher - and this would be the only likely outcome from a stressed departure.

Generally they're strapped/clipped down and instantly killed in an electrified bath. Chicken is alive, big charge through the water, chicken is dead. As quick as a lot of lightning.

The whole "blessing" thing makesmme laugh to be honest as I imagine people seeing it like in the movies for virginal sacrifices at altars.
Basically in halal slaughter the guy says two words before cutting the throat of the animal. It takes milliseconds
As for the slaughter then it is specific and the animal's throat must be cut by a sharp knife severing the carotid artery, jugular vein and windpipe in a single swipe.
This method has been shown to inflict very little pain and death is very quick
Blood must be drained out of the carcass. So the animal is dead when this happens
I've always wondered, can Muslims hunt? Have they always farmed their meat?

And usually the stunning method involves hung upside down and on a conveyor belt and they go through trauma

I'd lop the head off. Fastest way to do it and breaking the neck bare handed won't for sure kill it right away.
The electric wire baths are for volume and instant. Yeh the chickens do have to be strapped in to what's essentially a death conveyor belt, but they're hardly going to be afraid, stressed or have any other trauma caused when they're well used to people clipping and strapping their feet for various reasons. It'd be very good if people can come up with a more humane way still of dealing with the volume.
And the chickens tend not to be strapped upside down anymore Zlat. Think that got removed, but not 100% sure if it was just altered for volume or for ethical whatever.
