Rubbish. Don't get me wrong I'd be happy with top 4 this season but I wouldn't celebrate it
He's right. I personally don't see it as a trophy as a fan but as a manager I would because it is a hard thing to get into, especially this season.
I definitely would if I was an owner or shareholder
Especially this season
Jose excuse number 1
If a manager sees it as a trophy then you know he is a failure. Thankfully, Jose doesn't.
Some of our own fans have been putting the same ridiculous spin on our own situation.
They won't get top 4. They took there chances fair enough. But parked the bus for a point 2nd half. Never seen an arsenal team do that.

Actually, the state of the top 6 this season isn't great, as proven by our CL form. A little consistency and you'd gone yourself challenging for the title.

Moving the goalposts every passing week. I said on another thread, I'll give it a few weeks until the League cup win is deemed an acceptable season.
It's not just our fans, it's a lot of football fans.

It's certainly more desirable to a clubs owners than the league cup or the fa cup.
Again, as a fan, i don't see it as a trophy but know that some do. And they have a point these days.
With all the money you get for making the CL it's a better thing for a club to get than a domestic trophy

What does the CL form have to do with the top 4 race?
If 6 teams are fairly equal then whether that's equally good or equally bad, it's hard to be in the top 4 of that 6
Good grief. No sooner do I make that comment than Busby copies our major spin doctor.
There are tons of fans on here harping on about how critical a top four spot is, how managers of top clubs who fail to secure a top four berth have failed and should be binned off, whilst at the same time deriding managers who do the same thing.
That's called hypocrisy.
The same people can often be found devaluing silverwear obtained by actually winning knockout competitions, such as the FA Cup, the oldest association football competition in the world and the planet's most popular and hardest fought national club football cup, and the League Cup, contested by each of the 92 best football teams in England and Wales.
Top 4 is an achievement if you use it as a stepping stone. The way Wenger has been with it, as if its a target year after year you can understand why the fans are frustrated
Which did you enjoy more? Reaching top 4 in 14/15 or the league cup this year? For me winning the cup was much more enjoyable regardless of the fact that it wasn't the biggest trophy.
I'd take an FA Cup or League Cup win any given season over finishing top four without lifting the PL Trophy.
I think it depends on the team. If West Brom or Liverpool got top four then I wouldn't hold it against them if they considered that a trophy. But for teams that should be winning things that shouldn't be the case.
Well CL football is great but lets be honest no english side can compete against the elite anymore unless they fluke it with high efficiency at both ends like Chelsea of 2012 and 2013.
5th and fa cup was worse for the manager then 4th and no trophy.
Guardiola essentially said the same, it's a disgrace.

According to Robb we are on an upward trajectory
Still 5th and a league cup
😉
Robb said LVG is shocking so Mourinho has few injuries compared to LVG and a much better squad should be doing better. Its more frustrating this season under Mourinho then LVG.
Maybe all top 4 captains in their respective kits (JT to represent Chelsea of course) should climb the steps at Wembley and jointly lift a massive silver cup before the Cup Final and do a lap of honour with it. They can each keep it for 3 months, Then they can call it a 'trophy'.
I actually thought when we missed out on top 4 we probably had a much better chance of winning the europa league anyway and if you win that you get uefa supercup chance. Long way from that yet but it seems the hope for this season being a success is winning it.
