Someone should tell Wenger its better to finish 3rd in CL group stage and win europa league as you get a trophy and CL qualification to group stage unlike 4th.

Give me an actual cup final day at Wembley as a fan anyday.

Finishing top four is only good because it improves the chances of the above happening long term.

TBF Mr Wenger has won the FA Cup a fair few times.

5th and fa cup was worse for the manager then 4th and no trophy.

According to Robb we are on an upward trajectory

Still 5th and a league cup

😉

It's almost like our Europa run doesn't exist

If you had a choice of being 5th this season with a league cup or 4th with no cup what would you choose?

When people look at history they see what clubs have won,not how often they finished top four. I have witnessed great successes as a fan and top 4 is not one of them. I'd take a trophy every time.

who cares who gets top 4 finish anyway your teams are all crap in the Champions League, you'd be better off in the europa.

If it was city or united. I would say being in the cl is more important because they could buy the right players to win it. I know that sounds stupid after this season but they do spend to get better.

I'd choose top four over league cup win.

I'd choose league cup and Europa above top four though.

You can't beat a league or cup win melts!

It'd be a more difficult decision if a domestic cup win didn't mean automatic qualification for European competition the following season.

Come be a United supporter. You're halfway there already!

While top 4 clearly isn't a trophy IMO it is superior to the League Cup which is nice to win but is clearly not taken as seriously as other cups.

Top 4 is also something all the big clubs should aim for but that still doesn't make it a trophy. I'd also put the EL above top 4, you ultimately end up with a CL place and an actual trophy too.

Yeah, EL is miles above top 4

Given that Europa league gives you a chance of CL football the following season, it slightly lessens the need for top 4.

Pretty sad that we're 'merely' talking about top 4, let's get back to challenging for titles

Also top 4 can hide problems that a club may actually have which is true for Arsenal for the past few years. Yes they're getting top 4 but they're still being embassies every year in the CL and top 4 in a way masks the issues that fans have clearly been wanting fixing for years. The problem is top 4 is fine for owners who's only care is financial but means little to fans who soon lose interest of CL football when so little comes from it.

There was maybe a period of 5-10 years ago when top 4 would have been acceptable for Arsenal, given some financial constraints.

But they are no longer there, and especially in the last few seasons, given that they have the stability of the same manager, Arsenal have way underachieved recently.
If Wenger is not prepared to spend, then he needs to go, and if the board get caught up in the sentiment of what he has done for them in the past, then they only have themselves to blame.

Top four is not on your honours board. The league cup how ever meaningless is.

That is the way I look at it.

Yeah I get that which is why I'm happy we won it but I still feel that a club like United will have reaching the CL and doing well in it as of greater importance than winning the League Cup.

It's all relative though, Jose often likes to win the League Cup when he starts jobs as I imagine it helps breed a winning mentality while not being the hardest thing to win. Sooner rather than later though a club our side should be thinking about first getting into the CL and then doing well in it. That along with fighting for the PL title should be the aims for United. Although obviously not straight away as the club have been in a mess since Ferguson left but it should still be our goal in the very near future.

Next season I couldn't really care about the League Cup TBH.

This will be a big off season for Jose. He has to get it right in the market.

And he has to manage the squad much better.

Zlatan if he is still here and Pogba do not have to play every game.

Next season is huge for Jose, he has often stated he knows players far better after a season and with another transfer window he really needs to get us improving and genuinely being a title contender.

I think we all agree on that.

He will know more than anyone just what weaknesses this squad has and will likely sort them.

As a fan, I felt better after beating Barcelona than I did after beating Liverpool last year. Fa cup would be close.

It's relative surely. You felt great because it was a relatively new experience for your club (not trying to take the p-ss). For United fans I think the group stages of the CL became pretty monotonous in recent years and the games were largely dull. That was also due to the fact we were top seeds so never got big teams in our groups.

Being spoilt for so many years probably lessened certain achievements and I think because we've been so bad the past 3-4 years maybe we are missing it again.
