I was jealous when they signed Maradona.

I was jealous they had Laudrup.

I was jealous about Ronaldo.

But I was younger then.

There might still be a tinge of jealousy now, but much more than that I just got huge enjoyment from watching their football, so no, not really.

I was angry to see us try to counter them the way we did in a CL semi at the Bernabéu though. Very, very angry, outraged, incensed.

There's a line in our club anthem, referring to our own club, that roughly translates to:

"An enemy in the battle, when defeated shakes hands without envy nor resentment, like a good and faithful brother."

I very much live by that principle when it comes to football. I'd much rather we go toe-to-toe and get pummelled 5-0, than refuse to engage.

If you do get spanked by the better team, so be it. Applaud them, lick your wounds, try to regroup and be better next time round.

No, they'd still be among my favourites if they were Danish, Brazillian or Nigerian.

I loved watching Laudrup, Ronaldo or Rivaldo at Barça, they never did anything for Spain though.
