Looks like another three day test match. Test cricket is all but finished. One exciting finish like the last Test in about 100 Tests is hardly going to attract new supporters to watch the five day game, which invariably seems to finish in three days. Far too many one day players now who cannot play Test match cricket.

It's been tough conditions to be fair. Lords is usually a pretty flat deck.

Interesting choice for the selectors to make for Australia. Guessing stoneman will make it as cooks partner. Reckon Westley and malan are gone. Hameed to bat 3 Hales 5. Ballance to go as reserve batsman.

Not a bad bet. Bayliss has said no new faces from outside the last 12-18 months so they may well come back in.

I think Hameed will open with Stoneman batting 3

Who bats at 5? Do you promote everyone up a place and bring in another bowler, retain Malan or bring in someone else, Ballance, Hales?

Saw Warney and Goughie spoke about their teams to go over, had Hales at 5,

Speaking of the winter tour.I had no idea England were also touring New Zealand and had one days and tests there.. where did that come from?

Might as well stick the shorter formats in here too I think. England win the toss and bowl in the T20.

England: Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (c), Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler (wk), Adil Rashid, David Willey, Liam Plunkett, Chris Jordan, Tom Curran.

West Indies: Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Marlon Samuels, Chadwick Walton (wk), Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Carlos Brathwaite, Sunil Narine, Ashley Nurse, Jerome Taylor, Kesrick Williams.

Umpires: Michael Gough, Tim Robinson.

TV umpire: Rob Bailey; match referee: Javagal Srinath.

Keep Willey and Jordan away from the odi team. No idea why footitt and ball didn't play as outstanding for Notts in T20. Long tail too which slowed the chase down.

Jordon has proved to be a pretty decent death bowler for us recently, plus he's an outstanding fielder and can give the ball a whack down the order.

England should look a lot better for the ODIs when Stokes and Ali come back in and balance the side a bit more.

Jordan can only bowl at the death though...useless at any other point of the innings....

Ball should be playing IMO, dunno why Malan was dropped he made 78 on his t20 debut

The management of some players is just strange to be honest. Why it's taken so long for Bairstow to cement a place is odd. At least he's been told the opening berth is his now although I'd preference to open with Root with Bairstow at 3.

Presumably that means Stokes comes in for Roy to bat in the middle order and Ali will probably come in for Curran.

I'd also bring in Ball for Willey although together they make a commentator's dream of a bowling partnership.

Start delayed by a wet outfield. I thought everywhere had nice weather today.

Play from 14:30, Windies win the toss and bat. Stokes in for Roy, Woakes in for Jordan and Ali in for Curran are the changes from the T20 side in this FourtyTwo42 fixture.

England: 1 Alex Hales, 2 Jonny Bairstow, 3 Joe Root, 4 Eoin Morgan (capt), 5 Ben Stokes, 6 Jos Buttler (wk), 7 Moeen Ali, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 Adil Rashid, 10 Liam Plunkett, 11 David Willey.

West Indies: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Evin Lewis, 3 Shai Hope (wk), 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Jason Mohammed, 6 Rovman Powell, 7 Jason Holder (capt), 8 Ashley Nurse, 9 Devendra Bisho, 10 Jerome Taylor, 11 Kesrick Williams.

In the CC, there's a fascinating battle going on as to who gets relegated with Warwickshire though with the 3 sides who fought for the title last year battling it out although Hampshire and Surrey aren't completely safe.

Shai Hope is gonna have some career, what a lovely stroke player

Don't get how Willey gets in this England team. He has been poor for a while.

I think Stokes would have been a bit more animated had he bowled Samuels rather than got him out strangled down the leg side on review.

Other than a couple of big overs earlier from Gayle, it's been relatively sedate so far from the Windies. Just 15 overs left for them, they'll need to at least double their score from here.

posted on 19/9/17

Top 6 have all reached double figures but Gayle's 37 is the top score and they're all back in the hutch. Might struggle to beat their T20 score the other day at this rate.

Very chase-able target for us

Oh Hayles. ..that's a cheap catch

posted on 20/9/17

Pretty easy run chase in the end, West Indies have some talented individuals but there's too many boundary hitters and not enough busy players looking to sneak more 1s and 2s. Bar Root's drop, there was some very good work in the field with a couple of outstanding catches.

Class from Bairstow though to maximise his opportunity with an unbeaten century.
