By all accounts GBN is the joke we all thought it would be. Top down shambles.

Some of it is good and some not so.
I look in on about ten news channels.
If people never watch GB news, how do they base judgement on it?
You do not have to sign up or watch it 24/7, but this notion that it is just be bad as Andrew Neil is behind it is silly.

I honestly can't see what place religion has in politics tbh, from America to Israel to Isis.
Only causes division and hatred of others, it's not a sound basis for any relevant decisions with a modern frame of view.
It's a depressing change to the law, and trump's supreme court seem happy enough with it, think it's only a matter of time before the federal law on this topic is changed.
Imagine denying someone that choice ffs, even in the case of rape. Disgusting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How long do you think choice should be available?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Harder question to answer.
Is it 24 weeks the old threshold? Just before the develop the capacity to feel pain?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure. But the most premature to survive is 21 weeks and 2 days.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2021/06/23/premature-baby-survive-birthday-record/
Hard to make a case after that period.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed. Can't remember the exact figures surrounding it all, but certainly if it can survive after 21-22 weeks 20 weeks seems reasonable (barring other medical complications)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just been reading more about that law, and it is absolutely batshiiiiit crazy.
Bounties for citizens who grass on other citizens who *abet* others who *might* seek to abort a ten week old fetus having been raped by a family member.
Yeah, nice one you divisive, misogynistic, anti-scientific, fundamentalist, inhumane clowns.
I know the Enlightenment long pre-dates Texas’s founding as a state, but still it would appear that Enlightenment thinking has yet to arrive there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst I agree with the general sentiment here regarding the Texas law, the US abortion rate is ridiculous. Around 1 million a year. Sounds like they need better s£x ed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So the answer is to have 1million more kids a year in the country, with no means to support them?
Whilst I agree alternatives need to be made, and part of that is probably an issue surrounding healthcare and the cost of some methods of contraceptive, the answer is NOT to have a million unwanted kids a year with no one to feed or clothe them.
The republicans that bleat about the sanctity of life only care until the kid is born, they are after all campaigning to remove welfare, and even that's a tenuous statement considering they are the greatest opposition of socialised healthcare, and the cost to have a kid in the US is an between 10-13k just for the labour, with the combined cost of pre and post natal care averaging around 30k.
A lot of those 1million abortions are probably because the expectant parents cannot afford to have the child, the poverty rate in the US is rising fast as inequality grows, saw a stat the other day that in the 60s CEOs earnt around 17 times their average worker salary, it's now over 300x with their pay increasing well over 1000% compared to less than 20% for workers. (And they aren't even in the EU titty )
There are so many facets to this, if you want less abortions, act on the drivers of abortions, don't unscientifically ban them, and then find 10k per informat to have neighbours grassing on each other in a soviet style population control experiment.

1 in 4 US women have had an abortion. Disgusting statistic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t think there’s anyone who really wants to see so many women going through what is a horrible, mentally stressful (at best) process.
*Most* private health insurance plans are now required by the Affordable Care Act to provide women with contraception, and that has helped bring the pregnancy rate down; but let’s not forget that very many women (particularly - as this is America - young, underprivileged women) still don’t have access to free or even affordable contraception.
It’s another very unfortunate (horrible, IMO) symptom of a broken model for public health and healthcare.

Less applicants per job = workers have the power = better pay for workers
https://mobile.twitter.com/PaulEmbery/status/1433459994884771841
I can't believe the amount of times I've heard on the news commentators saying with a panicked tone that wages will have to go up. Confirmation that the system is completely broken if wages going up is a bad thing. One thing I will never understand is the left wing groups so desperately pushing for employers to have the pick of 1000s of applicants for one position via mass immigration, thus guaranteeing wages staying low. One person complains about low wage? They can be replaced by one of the other 999 desperate applicants. Low applicant to job opening ratios are GOOD, and me not having instant access to avocados or McDonalds Milkshakes every now and then is a price I am more than willing to pay.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This has nothing to do with the EU, It's just a facet of neoliberalism, any government in the last 30 years could have done more to raise the minimum wage, they chose not to.
It's like the paradox that Conservatives claim to care about the destruction of the family unit, yet praise Thatcher for.busting the unions.
Whilst union membership has raised recently, they still have about half the members they did before Thatcher.
Union collective bargaining rights contribute around 30% of everyone's wage in the UK, driving up the wage for jobs causes everyone else to compete for their staff, as an example why would you work as a farmer on minimum wage £8.91, when you could work for royal mail for £12.50 an hour (due to go up by a £1 this year)
Prior to Thatcher's busting of the unions wages grew in line with productivity, since she disconnected that wages have grown around 20%, with productivity near trebling, and the cost of living increasing by more that 300%
Thatcher did more to destroy the nuclear family than anyone, and the suppression of wages she started is still felt to this day.
Isis inspired terror attack in NZ where a Sri Lankan islamofacist stabbed 6 people in a supermarket.
The guy was know to NZ pm Arden and security forces were watching this guy, which begs the question, are we too soft on known nutters who threaten or have used violence.
We discussed one case of a judge giving a far right guy a second chance, and grouchy us hec claimed Islamist guys would not get such soft treatment, but many Islamist killers walk our streets on release from prison, or being watched, but not touched, for example the Streatjam attacker, Manchester arena bomber and London bridge jihadists.
The Manchester arena attacker was not reported on because a security guard feared being called racist for questioning suspicious activity, so the notion we are soft on white or far right nutters is somewhat countered by the number of Islamist extremists living and walking around in the UK and West.

It is the evangelicals that are pushing through the abortion related legislation in Texas btw. The Catholic blame is because the Conservative judges on SCOTUS are and POTUS is Catholic.
Seriously though, England players taking the knee in Hungary against racism and in solidarity with the few black players, in an all white stadium and hostile surroundings, was apt.
Not a fan of importing American politics into the UK and sport, but in this case, it was worthy.
And if players choose to do so before games, so be it.

In terms of teaching on abortion I don’t remember a great deal from school. There was a “pro-life” club which had about half a dozen weirdos in it. I get the impression that a great deal of the “teaching” around areas such as abortion and body rights comes from home or from church directly, as opposed to schools. Schools which of course have people from all backgrounds and religions at them.

We went to state school and no teaching on abortion and during years of church attendance, I have never heard abortion discussed.
I wonder what cathic and protestant groups are forming their complete opposition to any abortion???
Based on what?
A Dublin Catholic Irish speaker was out with us loyalists in north Belfast, canvassing for Dodds against Sinn Fein, because he backed dup on abortion, and opposed the SF change against Catholic teaching, in this mad world.
I worry about late and repeated abortions, but banning it altogether is inhumane.

(And they aren't even in the EU titty)
There are so many facets to this, if you want less abortions, act on the drivers of abortions, don't unscientifically ban them, and then find 10k per informat to have neighbours grassing on each other in a soviet style population control experiment.
Texas Taliban.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I repeat my last sentence. Sounds like they need better s£x ed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or better shex.🤔

I believe we have more than our own fair share of racists.
They weren't shy to boo the England team through the Euros either.

Aye, so is the pope.😊
The extremes of evangical and Catholic teaching is alarming, mate.
The RC and Free P church here have lost their grip on us and it is the way to go.
