From the video I've seen, I'm completely unsure why they drugged him at all.

Sat Nav, what is cheaper now than 40 years ago?
Besides millionaires and billionaires tax bills of course.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I imagine is cheaper to buy the contents of a working man's wallet these days

I want to know what's got better too tbh, as a direct result of ultra capitalism, stuff that wouldn't have been developed without mass offshoring of money, dividend extraction, worker and wage suppression etc.

It's ideological.

Someone once said “There’s no such thing as society” about 3 decades ago. Then sold off social housing stick without replacing it.

who said that?

Another benefit of not being bound by EU bureaucracy

https://news.sky.com/story/exclusive-ministers-bowed-to-pressure-to-drop-key-climate-commitments-for-uk-trade-deal-with-australia-12401988
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolute disgrace.

Bowing to demands from the administration of a climate change-denying, coal promoting proven liar with vested interests in the fossil fuel lobby governing a country with half the economic clout of the UK on matters relating to the biggest existential threat to mankind’s future in order to secure a trade deal estimated to be worth over 15 years 0.01 to 0.02% of GDP.

It’d be hilarious if it wasn’t so facking tragic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They desperately needed a flag/deal to wave
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Another thing that was predicted to result from Brexit. The negotiating position is weaker and the other guys can smell the desperation from across the negotiating table.

That was a fairly obvious flaw
The Australians have watched Truss preen herself and “announce” this deal
She was painted into a corner
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So much so that they dropped climate commitments they'd made in another deal. What happens when the conflicting deals collide?

Never liked him as a TV celeb, but I quite enjoy Russell Brands stuff on YouTube. Here a link when he debates Candace Owens... that combination is probably enough to stop most of you. 😂

Interesting observation from Brand around 5:14 mark where he accuses her of mistranslating what he said into something she can argue with because she can't argue with what he actually said. Something that is common with a certain section of the proverbial political divide and which I've mentioned on here before.

JS, do you remember Elijah McClain?
3 cops and 2 paramedics now charged with killing him.
Thoughts?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Charged with manslaughter. Sound about right, although I have to familiarise myself with norms and procedures of medics with regard to ketamine and the overall case to say whether the sentence should be lenient or severe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is alleged they gave him enough for a 190 pound man. He was 140 pounds.

Also, what really stands out to me is the procession of lies from the police and law enforcement. It seems to be lie after lie after lie which is what does the greatest damage to relations with police, more than anything else IMO.

Did everyone else get an advert on the front of this for Farage's latest venture to scare people into giving him money?

No, I got some advert about burning belly fat by gaining muscle.

Brand also did I good insight into Afghanistan and how it was a hugely successful war with so many companies profits skyrocketing.

Dunno if he is informed or misinformed, but he has quite a varied balance of topics and seems to have good intentions.

I quite like brands political commentary, no time for his standups or music etc, but I watched "The trews" a bit around the 2015 elections (his interviews with the party leaders) and it was interesting.

Milibands was cringey at the time, but now he feels like a missed opportunity.. stupid sandwich

One thing that Owens and her ilk absolutely excel at and now go to as their default mode when debating policy and ideas is use of the false dichotomy: everyone, every model, every idea and every single policy is exclusively either;

- conservative, and in favour of completely unrestricted free-market capitalism, or
- scary revolutionary socialist, and part of a plan to impose rule by diktat and strip away all personal freedoms.

Brand *almost* calls her out on it, instead trying to explain that she’s putting words in his mouth in order to misrepresent his views and that there are different paths to the one she’s describing. But I wish people *would* call right wing commentators out on it. There isn’t enough rigorous analysis in or of these kind of debates. That’s part of the reason why I detest the podcast interview; everything happens at 100mph, words and ideas get thrown around, momentum carries one way or another, and people declare their own ‘winner’ when really nothing robust or useful might have been said, and no statement has been logically interrogated.

“You must adhere to all of our views, otherwise you’re a communist!” They’ve used it because it works: polarisation has always historically helped the right. They paint a clear picture or pictures of the ‘enemy of the people’, then apply the label and/or stereotypes to discredit their detractors (meaning anyone who interrogates their arguments).

The art of the argument has been lost and replaced with carelessly-formed and mindlessly repeated ideological drivel.

I assume in U.K. territorial waters? I always thought maritime law was applicable to international waters and no one nation can change it to suit them. Admittedly know hardly anything about it

It's a dead cat imo, they simply can't do it without breaking the law and the optics of causing a death through something like this wouldn't be survivable even for this lot

So if all they want is a distraction and a fight between "the left" and "the right" then I've fallen for it
