A short history of the United States deliberately bombing hospitals
https://twitter.com/alanrmacleod/status/1501981269701373952?s=21
Fabulous thread
Not hating on the states or uk but watching the conductive fibre bombs used on Iraqi power stations during shock and awe campaign left me with questions in terms of consequences.
At that time I had NATO clearance and was working in defence technology sector.
You are in a far better position to comment on the morality of such actions.
Admin had enough of the hypocrisy of Western politicians acting all high and mighty about the Russians when their history is worse when it comes to the Middle East over the last few decades and their agendas when it comes to Palestine. My heart is with the Ukrainians and I hope they thwart Putin in the end.
My colleagues at work are wearing Ukraine flags on their blazers and I’m all for that, but if I dare to put on a Palestinian flag and an Israeli customer rocks up I’d be handed my P45. That’s the world we live in.
To clarify Ambrose, are you opposed to any western military intervention in Ukraine beyond shipping weapons.

Not that I disagree but I feel there will be some sort of intervention soon. It’s almost as if Putin is goading us. Either some form of chemical attack that is deemed beyond the pail, or an encroachment into somewhere like Poland…

Western intervention has often been counter productive and morally bankrupt.
I think the second the west impose a no fly zone Putin will back off as he knows he has zero chance of beating NATO and won’t want a nuclear conflict either. I understand the reticence to escalate things but at some point if Russia go too far (if they haven’t already) someone will have to step in. As a former NATO chief said, it’s Ukrainian airspace. If they want it policed then it’s their right to have it policed.

Speaking to a Polish woman whose garden I will work on soon and she was devastated and in tears, just back from her homeland visiting elderly parents in Poland, and they fear Putin may invade.
If Putin does go close to or over Poland or other NATO borders, then NATO has to fight, according to their charter, so I can understand why Ukraine asks, why not for us now?
I did not think Putin would be evil or stupid enough to launch a full scale war, but my geo political and military expertise was flawed, trying to second guess Kremlin Hitler, who kept his own troops and people in the dark about invasion.
As you say, Clock, there may be no alternative but to fight Putin.
'If Putin does go close to or over Poland or other NATO borders, then NATO has to fight, according to their charter, so I can understand why Ukraine asks, why not for us now?'
You answered you're own question - Ukraine is not in NATO.
Second - when you look at flimsy spending and general rapid expansion of NATO post 90s I dont think many people who signed up to the pledges ever thought they'd be invoked.
