What’s positive about it? Ripping people off who have older cars? All for a negligible change in air quality in the outer London locations?

Population of 550,000 vs 9,000,000
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lisbon has a higher population density.
Lisbon - 6450 people/km²
London - 5518 people/km²
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Irrelevant. All of the infrastructure is so much easier to create, maintain and improve with 550,000 people, density doesn’t come into it.

Was reading today that London one of the worst cities in the world for getting around by car. Even with ULEZ (?) it takes longer to go 10km in London than any other city in the world.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mate it’s completely daft. It’s not reducing traffic, it has improved the air quality I think in the very central condensed areas but I bet most of that is due to EVs and now he wants to expand it to all of London.
Your average worker who drives to work, drives to the supermarkets? Drives anywhere will no longer afford to do so.
It’s been said that they reissued the surveyors to target more younger people to get the result they wanted. Not sure if true but I wouldn’t be shocked.
£15 a day, £75 a week, £300 a month £3600 a year
It’s a complete disgrace and I really don’t understand why the people who typically love to clamour for the poorer among us, are not only not disgusted by this but in fact support it!
The cynic in me thinks it might be different if it were a Conservative mayor proposing this huge tax during the toughest times in several generations…
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a lot of extra money for people with older cars to find, I agree.
But it's also an incentive towards EVs / Hybrids which you can now pick up pretty easily second hand.
I'm in two minds about it, the environmentalist in me thinks it's great, but there should be some financial assistance, or 0% loans being issued for the poorer inhabitants to help them purchase a motor that will save them the "tax"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mate people can’t afford those cars, even second hand.
This is going to ruin normal people who have cars, ruin them.
Taxing the poorer people is not the way to go for cleaner air. Continue to subsidise EV and improving the EV infrastructure will get us cleaner air, marginal as it may be in outer London areas.
This is a truly diabolical scheme and I really don’t get why anyone supports it. It’s literally screw the poor and don’t bother the rich (ie. People with newer cars).
It exemplifies my objections to a lot of the ‘net zero’ type proposals is that it will fk over the people most in need whilst wealthy people feel great about Tarquin & Cuthbert walking to school with ever so slightly cleaner air.

I can also recognise that a higher population density which leads to 1000 more people on the roads per km² can also make it more challenging the other way.
It's seems that you are the only person who can't understand something, as you are the only one who has claimed one of those things is irrelevant.

See above
Starmer has confirmed that Corbyn won't be allowed to stand as a Labour candidate at the next GE.
He went onto say that if anybody didn't like it they should leave. Are the proper lefties/Jeremy's mates finally going to put their principles before their safe seats and form their own party or are they going to carry on being the most cowardly group of mp's at Westminster?
Time for McDonnell, Burgon, Abbott, Lavery, Rayner, Butler ..... etc to follow Tarry and stand up for what they believe in rather than supporting their duplicitous plastic Tory leader.
I also received a copy of Sturgeon's resignation letter.
I'll post it when she releases hers to show its the same.

Surely classical economics tells us that economies of scale should make the delivery and operation of larger mass transit systems marginally more efficient and affordable. Funny how that argument only seems to apply selectively.
One thing I like about the Lisbon system is that it doesn’t discriminate by socioeconomic status. If you don’t live there, you don’t drive there, full stop. Doesn’t matter whether you’re running a twenty year old Fiesta or a brand new Cayenne. Need to be on the other side? Use public transport or drive around.

One of my mates in Edinburgh. Had a copy of the resignation letter. I’m waiting to see if it matches what is put out, but shared it on WhatsApp with colleagues who are also on the Scottish boards
