They had a Question Time show recently with an audience made up of only Brexit voters. Pawl wasn't complaining about bias then.

It was $hit and unnecessary as they talk about it every week.

It's funny how they never have any trouble getting NHS staff in the audience to have a moan.

My dear old mum had a cataract op on the NHS yesterday. She had to wait a week for it and the service from diagnosis to op was excellent but nobody wants to hear good news stories.

There are 1.25 million NHS staff in this country. That is approx. 2% of the UK adult population, which means in a representative audience of 100 people there should be at least 2 every week.

The trouble is, you don't want it to be representative. You just want it to be an echo chamber.

I do, great news.
Another piece of good NHS news, a long term plan for health recruitment and retention has been agreed with general all round approval.

Weirdly it was a plan developed by...wait for it ..The NHS and supported by the Labour Party.

I think the guests they get on QT are terrible and the politicians never actually properly engage. I don't really watch it because of that. Moaning about the representative audience not being biased enough is silly though.

As is calling the BBC a lefty channel when they have openly be run by Tory lackies for years now.

RE the French riots, wtf is 'involuntary homicide' if it isn't murder in this case?

No way is it even manslaughter if the officer pulled his gun out of his holster, pointed it at the victim then shot him from point blank range.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's the lowest charge for taking life, what that cop appeared to do was lose the plot because a young fella didn't listen to him.
I don't know enough, the young lad might have been up to no good, but he didn't deserve to die and definitely didn't deserve to die at, apparently, the hands of a hot headed state executioner.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And he didn’t deserve to then have the police lie to his family and the public about what had happened.

Having a debate is pointless unless both sides are represented.

Interesting how Labour/Lib mp's are now going on GB News. That well known right winger Daisy Cooper was just on and that was followed by Anne D discussing the brilliant treatment she was given by the NHS (from start to finish) when dealing with her recent breast cancer.

Give it a try.

An isolated story about receiving brilliant treatment by the NHS is called anecdotal evidence Pawl. It is utterly meaningless information.

To judge how the service is actually performing we look at waiting times, numbers on waiting lists, number of operations undertaken, post fulfilment, number of abandoned GP appointments, etc. That’s actually useful information, and I think we are all aware of how the data looks.

Racist discrimination in American higher education admissions has been struck down by the Supreme Court. Excellent news.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely. It’s not only clearly racist in nature but demonstrably actually harms many of those whom it intends to help.

Ie. If you put me into an Ivy League university having scored notably lower than the majority of entrants then I will struggle versus going to a slightly lesser but more suitable university. Not that it’s not also highly relevant that others will lose out that deserve entry or that others will have to score even higher partly because they are Asian.

It’s clearly ridiculous and a backwards measure.

Improve schooling options from childhood years through to adolescence and let meritocracy thrive. Not money, not racial backgrounds, not daddy’s connections; just aptitude.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not having such policies may be all well and good, I keenly wait for these improvements in schooling options for poorer people in America though.

I strongly suspect at state level (where education budgets are largely set and implemented) we won’t see the transformation in poorer schools, and what instead will happen will be entrenched privilege and increased inequality when it comes to life expectancy, income, wealth, infant mortality, incarceration etc etc

Yes but it's good to hear the positive stories rather than doom and gloom all the time.

Again it's all about presenting both sides of the argument.

My experience of the NHS (having a relatively young son and a missis that's been under the knife 3 times in the last 10 years) is that the doctors and medical staff are fantastic but there is a tremendous amount of wastage in the system which urgently needs dealing with.

Haha, no but I'd make a top presenter.

I would introduce Spurs hour an opportunity to talk about all things Tottenham on a daily basis.

I was on an LEV course at the HSE centre in Buxton earlier this week, and was speaking to a Ambulance driver who was also on the course.
The stuff he told me about NHS waste was incredible

He told me they'd recently bought around 120 new ambulances without checking the spec out properly and only realised after they'd been bought that the driver seat could only be pulled back so far. It meant only people 5ft 6 and under could actually drive them !

Bit of an oversight really

My son was not the best behaved boy during his reception year and refused to take his eye test at school.

The NHS wrote to us with an appointment for him to have it at our local hospital. However in the mean tine my missis had taken him to Specsavers and got it sorted.

She rang up and cancelled the NHS appointment. A few weeks later we received a letter saying he'd missed the appointment and they gave us a new one.

This went on 3 times until we received a rude letter saying there would be no more appointments as we clearly couldn't be bothered to show up.

It's not just the postage waste but also the cancelled appointments my son didn't need/attend could have been taken by a child that desperately needed the test.

Money and time down the train because one department couldn't pass information to another.

Just a small example but imagine how many other wasted appointments there must be?

We've actually seen similar to that with midwife appointments recently. Our midwife arranged an appointment when we were on holiday and we called up to tell them we couldn't attend and rearrange it. We still got a phone call and a letter saying that we had missed the original appointment, even though it had been cancelled and we'd had another one arranged.

?

So that's not a valid example of wastage in the system?

What an odd response.

We also had a miscarriage scare and had to sit in a busy A&E waiting room for about 3 hours waiting to be seen. Was possibly the worst 3 hours of my life. Particularly when you have some Karen trying to tell you she deserves one of the comfy chairs in the waiting room more than your wife as she is in for a minor back complaint.
