If youre a bit sensitive about the swab then hopefully there will be other ways that are as effective

Like those clever dogs who can smell it, god bless em
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not me personally I’m just talking in general, although saying that after a few weeks of doing it I’d probably get seriously fed up of doing it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh I’d get fed up of it undoubtably after a few goes, no matter how far it gets up there. Like marriage really 🤷‍♂️

They’ve had a bit of a mare this week with press releases and comments. Implying even if you’ve been vaccinated you still won’t be able to go on holiday abroad anyway, you’ll have to test yourself twice a week too, and they want a 6 month extension to the coronavirus act.

I can get why and the hesitation but all they’re doing is p!ssing a lot of people off and making them wonder what the point is in even getting vaccinated as they’re still going to be living like dogs / restricted

As always it’s press or media releases too, government doesn’t clarify. Probably why the numbers protesting the lockdown were so huge this weekend compared to the usual minority

Plus they keep saying driven by data not dates and as I said what I don’t get is in the old tier system 70-80 cases per 100k population was good enough for tier 1 and 80-100 for tier 2 (basically next to no restrictions) and the whole U.K. has been under 100 for a month and under 70 for the last 3 weeks but we’re still effectively in tier 4. The rate for over 60’s has dropped to only 20 per 100k population too, and we have under 5,000 people in hospital.

But we’ve still got to wait months, don’t really get why

I believe there was updated guidance from the WHO on the different tiers, that’s what had been used as justification in Scotland for changing how the different tiers are defined. Personally (and this is unverified) I find cases per 100k a not hugely helpful measure when you have a significant proportion of the “likely to need hospital treatment” people already vaccinated, going back to the “Protect the NHS” point. When there wasn’t a vaccine the case numbers could be a fairly clear leading indicator of likely impact on health services but it is now less clear. A better measure could be cases per 100k per cohort. So you look at it by age groupings and then apply likelihood of hospitalisation at that level.

posted on 22/3/21

Yeh that makes sense bm, if anything they could use the cases per population for over 60’s which is now down to only 20.

Admissions are under 300 a day already and there’s under 5k in hospital and the current ratio seems to be 200 admissions a day but 500-600 discharges

It’s very likely by the middle of April we will be under 500 people in hospital

posted on 22/3/21

Plus by the middle of April all over 50’s should have immunity built up (would be 2/3 weeks after their first dose)

Aye, and now national long term laws are going to be made based on what has happened the last few months only. What about the last few hundred years and the next few hundred years?

This is actually the definition of stupidity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It does feel like an inappropriate time to be discussing such legislation, when temporary restrictions are in place. Additionally, the bill itself is unjustifiable when significant parts of it don’t appear to have been referenced within their manifesto (I.e. there is no reasonable mandate for them to pursue the policy)

Ah was just feeling really low, really worn out. We had taken the decision to not see anyone at Christmas and where we live we don’t know anyone, so my wife and I hadn’t had a face to face convo with anyone since the beginning of October. This weekend we did manage to see some folk outside so that’s really lifted my spirits. Also got a bottle of lagavulin couriered to me on Sunday so spirits were also quite literally lifted

Bmcl, glad your spirits are lifting. lagavulin, nice, I've yet to try it(I can't recall having tasted it)but purchased a bottle last week. It was game of thrones branded so selling at 20 quid discount. Picked it up for £45.

A large US trial of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has confirmed that it is 79% effective in preventing symptomatic Covid-19 and 100% effective against severe disease.

The study also found no evidence for an increased risk of blood clots.

Indeed the rhetoric has shifted considerably from save lives and protect the NHS to one of as near to zero Covid as is possible in the knowledge that there is no such thing.

The roadmap out now seems far too cautious but despite me willingness to allow more freedoms I've become so used to the April, May and June dates of further easing I'm quite happy to stick to what we have instead of trying to bring them forward. Cases hopefully should be negligible by then and at least businesses and the general population alike can plan.

What I'm not getting is this new agenda to prevent international travel in the notion that we continue to "protect" what we have gained and immune ourselves to new variants. New variants will always be a part of life so where does this end?

Not a chance when there is an opportunity to politicise the thing to disguise failings.

The behaviour of the EU and a number of its countries is absolutely bonkers.

EU is protecting itself and its member states

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's not really should we reciprocate. It'll do far more harm to them.

It's not just the EU, there's countries in S.America, Africa and Asia that banned it for a bit.

And I was shocked to read today that a large number of our AZ vaccines have been imported, and we are yet to export any to other countries.

Did they in turn rip up sound contracts?

These vaccines are not the EU's. They belong to private companies which were funded by the UK.
