Using a song from a film literally about a sinking ship.

I guess Trump does know and use "the best people" for his campaign.

I think she speaks coherently, comes across as competent and I find the fact she smiles and is genuinely positive refreshing. I've no idea why people keep saying she is unlikeable and I'm not convinced those who keep saying it know either.

It's because she's not Trump. Just look at the state of Oscar's comment that followed yours.

Agree and it’s all about positivity too. She does speak well as you would expect that from a former prosecutor.

She really struggled when running for the democratic nomination against Biden in the debate/forums and also struggles when unscripted with the press.

The debates with Trump will be massive for her, if she doesn’t Fack them up and does ok she walks it for me.

She'll destroy Trump in the debates. She probably has about 20 IQ points on him and is far, far sharper.

Trump won’t debate imo. He’ll pull out and continue to build speculation he’ll drop out of the race

Many of Trumps biggest bands are now publicly backing RFK jr. They probably see the direction this is headed and Trump is a busted flush.

My concern will be that Trump won't debate. He will mudsling and lie. He followers lap that stuff up.

It's important an opponent doesn't let themselves get pulled into the gutter with him.

Doesn’t really matter if his followers lap it up though, does it? They’re not going to switch votes whatever he does.

Reading an excellent book by Prof Ben Goldacre atm which has a fascinating section on the history of anti-vaxx campaigns and movements.

Points out that the smallpox and polio vaccines - which of course turned out to become two of the most important scientific advances in human history, full stop - saw sustained and concerted campaigns run against them.

I think there’s a tendency to talk about an anti-vaxx history beginning with the Great MMR Hoax, but in actual fact just about every new vaccine has been subject to noisy and dangerous misinformation peddling movements.

I think it all goes back to that one thing that has facked with progress for a millennia. Superstition. Still just as big a problem these days than it ever was.

As Carl Sagan once predicted…

“I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...

The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance”

Robb

That last Sagan paragraph sums things up quite nicely.

There’s a whole chapter of the book on MMR, and his conclusion is basically that the media, and in particular the British print press, were responsible for engineering the crisis.

Cursory research would have found (and indeed did find, although it wasn’t printed anywhere) that Andrew Wakefield had vested interests in both his receipt of legal aid funds for supporting MMR-autism court cases (almost £500k) and in a patent for a new, potentially very lucrative vaccine.

It would have found that one of Wakefield’s own PhD students undertook sample analysis demonstrating that no measles RNA could be found in the bowels of Wakefield’s subject children.

It would have found that both case-control studies and an absolutely vast cohort study, which had looked at every Danish child receiving the MMR vaccine between 1991 and 1998 (hundreds of thousands of them), had found zero links between the vaccine and autism.

It would have found, most immediately, that Wakefield’s claims weren’t even made on the back of any remotely compelling evidence. (It was a paper on twelve case studies, all kids referred to him precisely because he was ‘the guy’ looking at specific cases of bowel issues and autism, so an inherent bias there, which found that eight had been diagnosed after receiving an MMR jab. Which is completely useless information, statistically speaking.)

But the national press - and the papers were almost all culpable to some extent (with a special mention to the Telegraph and Mail, which pushed exceptionally hard) - had found a quite unique combination ‘human interest’ (wailing middle-class mothers) and medical scaremongering story, which was selling them an awful lot of advertising space. And they weren’t about to let science or the interests of the public’s health get in the way of that.

She speaks like a patronising Karen type of person and evidently lacks self confidence as giggles relentlessly at everything

Would be even more embarrassing than Biden on the world stage, as if she’s going to be able to stop the genocide by Israel and Russia, what’s she going to do, laugh at them until they stop it?

Polls don’t surprise me though, usually knee jerk reaction and the DNC is still to come so I predict and expect she’ll probably take around a 10 point lead in 2-3 weeks then trump will chip away at it after the debates and get it down to a couple within margin of error then we’ll see

It’ll be close because trump’s picked as I said a few weeks ago probably the worst VP he could of picked

Harris did the same though weirdly, maybe they just want Yes people behind them but awful choices from both
