There is a free phone number that will fill out the forms over the phone on pensioners behalf. True story.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which of course they might get through on and get someone who’s not wfh.
Really? You’re actually defending this when even so many members of the Labour Party are incensed about it themselves and it’s recognised as being the biggest blunder so far in their very short reign?
And to enact it with such haste for such a small “saving”?
Fair enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m not defending it per we, I’m just not jumping all over it and blatantly lying about its true impact.
You didn’t know about that phone number. You didn’t know about them trying to pro actively engage pensioners who are not accessing their full benefits the other week too.
Would it be fair to say that you’re really not very informed on the subject, and as such, are not really in a credible position to be so critical?

No. I was aware of the campaign to “assist” them in making claims, so that was a bit of a daft assumption.
It has been widely reported and widely ridiculed in equal measure.
People (never mind pensioners) just can hardly ever get through to public bodies on the phone and haven’t been able to since Covid. Their service is appalling.
You know this though. And you are “per se” defending it. Which of course is your prerogative.
Anyways, we were on about Keir and his freebies.
Poor chap always perpetually stunned to the point where he doesn’t realise his nett worth of £7.7m (and growing) isn’t enough for him to purchase his own specs or his wife’s clobber, and needs freebies from donors with a political interest.
Just how will this poor chap be able to smash the gangs, negotiate with Europe, fix the NHS etc when he is so perpetually stunned by everything?
It’s weird because it seems as though you work in extremes and try to caveat anything positive that fundamentally undermines your complaining. Not saying you have a clear agenda of course.
Regardless of the right or wrongs of the WFA cuts, why are we, once again, subsidizing capitalism?
Surely, at basic levels, if your customers cannot afford your product, you don't have a business. Adam Smith would be very annoyed.
Same could be aimed at why are we subsidizing the low paying businesses and high charging landlords, through universal credit for 5.4m working households.

Oh undoubtedly there are many areas that need cleaning up and I hope they are.
Low paying businesses are legally obliged to pay the minimum so I’m not sure what constitutes low paying. That to me is market forces.
However you are absolutely right than many things could easily be changed for the better.

Thinking about this however, maybe a measure he put in place that profits over a stated level should see refunding of subsidy in proportion? Not sure how we could do it, but that would seem fair.

2023 profit:
SSE - £2,183,600,000
Cadent - £945,000,000
Electricity NW - £195,000,000
Why is the taxpayer subsidizing them when they're making £100m's profit every year, when will the onus fall on them to do the subsidizing for the pensioners right wingers are suddenly most protective of?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So many questions. I think I’d need to know what the trend was in their profit making over a longer period to see if they were being over subsidised. And I can’t be rsed looking to be honest.
You may recall that I’ve continually stressed my feelings on dividend payments and the like when companies are not acting in good faith, be they subsidised or not.

If you want to focus on the smaller issues crack on. Classic right wing smear campaign to suck in the mugs and the more chsllenged of us.
Is it illegal? No. Has there been FAR worse fee loading by the Tories over the last decade? Absolutely. Did you ever bring that up? Nope.
You’re better than this imo. Or more capable is probably better put.

Smaller issues? It’s headlines stuff.
You are correct in that it’s legal but do you genuinely think it’s a good look (pardon the pun) in taking free specs with his nett worth when the country is facing austerity and more taxation?
And to acknowledge my motive; it’s nothing more sinister than poking a wasp’s nest as I’m on a fairly boring train journey back home from the game last night. I’m fwcking around is all and saw the opportunity.
I do however retain my beliefs on how all this looks
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s a terrible look tbf. I actually don’t understand wanting to claim it personally, so you’re bang in with that.
It’s headline news because it’s a smear though, let’s be honest.
On the post after that, you’re right, you have been against subsidies and do in tend to you. Credit where it’s due.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh undoubtedly there are many areas that need cleaning up and I hope they are.

There is a free phone number that will fill out the forms over the phone on pensioners behalf. True story.

Yes me dear old mother would love to be sat on the phone answering 200 odd questions with some stranger.
Haha, you don't get it, just like Starmer.
------------------------------------------------------------------
How has your dear old mother survived the last 50 years?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eating, drinking and heating.
