Many years ago I was I was in Dublin when they were having a tribunal into Charles Haughey, a professional politician with a yacht, a private island, mansions, racehorses and wads of cash.
The bit that really sticks in my mind, he was flying to Paris to get custom made Charvet shirts and going on TV telling the Irish people that times were tough and they needed to tighten their belt.
Proper corrupt pooitician,not like these lightweights nowadays.

That's the proper way to do it

As expected; the conference votes to have the winter fuel allowance cut reversed.
They’ll be ignored by their own party.

74% of pensioners own their own home. 29% of pensioners own assets of £1m plus. Evidence, albeit anecdotal, of pensioners saying they don't need WFP and put it towards holidays, meals out and the grandkids.

While those of working age won't have housing as an asset to rely on and a longer working life, if state pension exists in 20 or so years.
Pensioners are a protected demographic politically as they are more likely to be politically engaged and more likely to vote. They are also more likely to vote conservative. Hence why we are in the current situation of paying millions to pensioners who don't need it whilst cutting child tax credits for a 3rd child for workers who do need it.

How to be a shadow Tory in three easy steps;
1. Pick a topic from the front pages of right wing media
2. Don’t do any research whatsoever
3. Whinge about it ad nauseam in faux outrage
4. Repeat daily whilst pretending to suddenly care about other people

The same right wing press outraged about WFP that told workers stuck in private renting, unable to get on the property ladder, to give up Netflix in order to buy a house.

It speaks to the character of someone when they make overly simplistic comments about people based on their voting decisions.
Similarly, this idea that the balance the ‘right and left’ system we have in our governance isn’t an important part of achieving progress as an economy is somewhat misguided… ignorant, even.
But such is the way of social media. A lack of tolerance, an entrenched view and a binary thought process.
These people are to be pitied more than anything.
