Carbon capture is a facking myth

Lot of climate change deniers and "what about china" idiots clogging up the replies but that doesn't change the fact that carbon capture is fossil fuel lobbying nonsense

Oil prices soaring again.

Which means petrol prices will yet again. Just when only last month, the baztard retailers were finally shamed into passing on the 5p cut in fuel tax that was actually imposed during Covid times, which has meant that petrol has fallen to around to £1.32 per litre in the last couple of weeks, its going to hike up yet again very quickly. Which will be like a tax rise to working people and related businesses who depend on commuting for work and logistics.

Makes as much sense as blaming the floods on blue eyed Jesus's judgement of homos and communists.

The funny thing is, people will probably believe him saying that.

What amazes me is that there are still high single digit of Americans who are still Undecided.

Not sure what it is that they're looking for at this stage.

I saw a clip of one interviewed after the Walz/Vance debate and she said she was worried how Vance didn't answer the question about Trump losing in 2020 and whether Jan 6th was bad.

If you're concerned about that then how the f@ck are you undecided who to vote for

I worry how some people clothe and feed themselves when you hear stuff like that.

I’m in the US right now and grew up here.
Main feedback I got from friends this week is:
Immigration out of control, cost of living out of control mainly food and petrol/gas prices all over the last 4 years.

That’s from 15 folks I went to high school with 30 odd years ago. Mainly republicans voters but some dems but all very good friends doing a mix of white and blue collar jobs.

All good enough to fly/drive to spend last weekend with yours truly in Austin

"The problem is that people on such a limited income have little room for manoeuvre, it’s not like someone in their 70’s can just work more hours or pick up some bar work."

2/3rds have assets, in housing, they can use to release funds should they need it, 1/3rd have assets worth more than £1m.

It makes sense to stop paying WFP to 11m pensioners whether it's needed or not and concentrate payments to those who do need it, even if it doesn't end up saving money.

Navigation of the benefits system is a hangover of the previous lot who made it intentionality difficult by cutting staff and adding hoops to jump through. Labour are mitigating this by hiring more staff to process pension credit claims.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst we can certainly discuss the problems with the current pension system and even better offer our opinions on options that can improve upon it, I really don’t get what your point about assets is.

Are you suggesting that they sell the property and downsize and use the difference to live more comfortably? Because the way you’ve phrased it with releasing funds sounds like remortgaging and releasing equity out of the property (if there is some). But this is extremely difficult once you’re a pensioner. If you had a great work pension (like many civil servants get) and perhaps other incomes and/or assets then maybe you could do this but that’s not the majority even those with assets over £1m.

I think you’re trying to mitigate & justify Labours choice in policy here because if it were part of an improvement to the system then improve the system first before you make a blanket change or do it simultaneously.

Any threshold for qualifying for WFP should be basing on income and maybe outgoings too (but limited to reasonable items not maintenance costs of yachts), not asset value. I would only accept asset value if it were at a very high level and above, certainly more than £1m. The reason being that an old couple may have a house worth £1.7m say and still have a mortgage on it costing them £2000-£3000 per month say but with only a state pension for one and let’s say a good civil servant pension as the other. They could probably still literally survive but they’re not exactly flush unless they had good equity and sold their house.

I know you’ll say ‘but Sat Nav, you think people should just cancel their subscriptions and they’ll be fine’ which isn’t entirely true (although of course those kinds of cuts help you save and therefore afford more) but this shouldn’t apply to pensioners. They’ve done their job, worked most of their life, all of their prime years; they deserve a break.

I think you probably worded that claim quite badly, to be fair. It presupposes that it’s been universally a good thing, which ignores a lot of context. But I think I know what you meant by it from impact on humanity.
