So pointing out that bias and agenda are a universal or human trait is less a revelation than exploring the specific nature of said bias in a more localised part of the world like Europe or even the UK, and the effects of that bias on the native population and the world at large.

Sad news and I hope the girl recovers well. Having said that, I don't agree with using these anecdotal and isolated incidents to portray the mind frame that things are "regressing". Murders, killings, homicides have always happened and if you account for population growth, violent crime is probably at its lowest levels in comparable history. Things are actually progressing, not regressing.
Also, when it was just newspapers and the evening news, this stuff didn't always make the headlines, but now you're constantly pummeled with it through social media, which deceives you that regression is occurring. People who didn't grow up with social media are the worst affected by this phenomena. Contributes to a negative outlook and a sense of losing something or nostalgia for "back in the day". However, it was worse or similar back in the day IMO.
Good luck to the girl and I hope those responsible get tried as adults because this is a crime that deserves that level of punishment and deterrence.

I really don’t think so. This sort of crime would have made the headlines at any time. Six teenagers attacking, stabbing and leaving another teenager for dead isn’t a sign of a progressive society, and whatever you say these incidents are far more prevalent now than in ‘pre social media’ times. If anything these incidents are more likely to be acknowledged with a sense of apathy because we read about it more. That’s not progressive.
My point is that we are not "regressing into neanderthals" like you claimed over this one anecdotal and unfortunate occurrence. There is some sort of "armageddon" slit my wrists movement, especially on social media where things that have always happened are being portrayed as novel and unique and therefore proof that it's all going to sheet.

Well no, I didn’t suggest this one incident is proof. You’ve completely made that up. You’re burying your head in the sand if you think that violence isn’t increasing. There has been an 80% increase in knife crime in the last ten years, with teenagers the most likely age group to be murdered this way. Suggesting it’s no different to how things have always been is way off the mark.

As you see, it depends on what time scale you're talking about and what specific crime you're talking about.
You've now pivoted to knife crime alone in the last 10 years alone, in order to support your point. Why only 10 years? You've just demonstrated my point. Stats can be manipulated to suit any opinion previously held. A football fan should know that best. I think this "armageddon, everything going to sheet and slit my wrists" attitude prevalent on social media is dangerous and based on viral anecdotal incidents instead of cold hard facts and reality.
Pray tell, without using percentages, how many teenagers have been killed through knife crime? I see there was a total of 583 homicides across all of the UK in 2024. How many of these were teenagers killed through knife crime and in a country of 70 million people whatever will we do when 583 are murdered every year. Oh my goodness!!! We're regressing to neanderthals!!!!

That covers all crime and isn’t related to what’s being discussed here. Domestic crime, burglary etc isn’t the issue. It’s the highest level of violent crime and who’s carrying it out that seems alarming to me.
From what I have read, too many people seem to be using the excuse of how recording crime has changed to downplay how bad things are now.

It was a reaction to you saying that we're regression to neanderthals over an anecdotal incident.
Using such terms infers a general regression in society, or did you come to the conclusion that society is regressing to neanderthals based on this one instance of crime?
From what I have read, too many people seem to be using the excuse of how recording crime has changed to downplay how bad things are now.
=====
What is this opinion based on?
I think it's a universally accepted fact that crime reporting gas improved massively. Not only that, but people are far more likely to report crime today than they were in the past. Unless you want to deny these facts?
On what basis do you say these facts are being used as an excuse to downplay how bad things are now?

A 13-year-old girl has been stabbed and six teenagers arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Humberside Police said she was found at the side of the A63 dual carriageway in Hessle at about 07:00 GMT on Friday.
She suffered "lacerations" to her neck, chest and abdomen and her injuries are "life-threatening", the force said.
Four boys aged 14, 15, 16 and 17, and two girls aged 14 and 15 were arrested soon after in a wooded area nearby.

Jesus wept, it’s like we’re regressing into Neanderthal’s.

Excellent, but not surprised to see that white collar crimes for which perpetrators hardly ever suffer any real punishment have increased.

It was a reaction to you saying that we're regression to neanderthals over an anecdotal incident.
Using such terms infers a general regression in society, or did you come to the conclusion that society is regressing to neanderthals based on this one instance of crime?

=====

‘As of 2024, *violence*, burglary and car crime have been declining for 30 years and by close to 90%…’
‘Knife crime grabs headlines in the UK, but our shock at individual incidents is testament to their rarity and our relative success in controlling violence…’
