To put it a different way, I will be very, very surprised if we end up seeing an open court trial.

I don’t think America™, particularly under Trump and his cabinet of billionaires, can have the public and media in an open courtroom, considering a super high profile case, listening to an anti-capitalist vigilante deliver a manifesto urging the American underclass to recognise their exploitation and disenfranchisement, to recognise that their system will never protect them, and to take the law into their own hands.

A hero to some then becomes a martyr to many. One way or another they won’t let it happen.

Yeah it's not been confirmed yet but it sounds like he did this due to either himself or a family member being f@cked over by an insurance company. One of his header photos on twitter is of a spine fusion x-ray.

Having a presumably sympathetic story that a lot of Americans can relate to, live from a courtroom all over the news channels, just can't see it being allowed to happen.

I find the gunman’s background in this context super interesting too.

He’s not been wronged, he’s not out for revenge, this is a rich, white, highly educated, super bright American… and he felt the system was so fvcked, he did it anyway.

Arguable that Super Luigi not making court due to his untimely demise would be a riskier strategy for corporate America than him delivering his thoughts from the dock.

I see there’s 0 coverage in the media of Israel violating agreements after the six day war, occupying Mount Hebron and launching strikes across the whole of Syria. Nothing to see here

People don't have to do what they advised. The guy had a manifesto on him. There is a good chance he wants the publicity of a trial.

I think there is a good chance he wanted to be caught. What is the likelihood an intelligent guy who committed a well planned crime like that is caught just in a McDonalds 5 days later with all the incriminating evidence on him. It doesn't align with everything else about this unless he was happy to get caught.

I don’t think you commit this crime with this particular motive, then plead guilty unless you’re facing the death penalty.

There’s no death penalty in NY state, but does anyone know if he could be tried federally?

Trump is the only recent president who has shown real enthusiasm for and carried out federal executions in significant numbers (GW Bush the only other one at all for many decades).

Could he be threatened with that?
