I’ve invested in ethereum. Not a huge amount of money but four figures and have made a tidy profit as it stands. I leave it in Coinbase it seems secure.
When bitcoin was around $1000 i had a wallet on my PC(Block-chain was about 6GB). At the time I was writing a multi parallel wallet cracking tool, to help folk break into their own wallets. When it collapsed, I shelved my project.
It's genuinely the most ridiculous bubble I've ever seen. There is no viability to bitcoin as a currency, due to the transaction rate limitations. Theoritically about 7 per second. Which is probably not even enough to support one town's worth of supermarkets, let alone a global currency.
Etherium(in the past 48 hours) currently has some of its largest holders, without access to their money due to a software developer messing up the system. That should tell you all you need to know.
The blockchain concept is quite interesting, but this doesn't need bitcoin or the notion of a speculative currency.
I dabble in FX, commodities and indices (for fun ) and I've looked at Bitcoin but I just can't make a decision about it for similar reasons to you. Have a massive feeling of FOMO with it but then that normall ends badly so..

Assume you're putting your money where your mouth is then and shorting it? Made new highs again yesterday..
Bitcoin isnt worth it now as its too high to buy, too much risk now at 5.4k
Worthless shooite, unless you got in early your going to lose yer money, it’s the most ridiculous idea ever, like our governments will ever allow it to prosper without their cut.

You dont have to buy a full coin. You can buy any amount.
My personally crypto portfolio contains:
Bitcoin (the standard)
Bitcoin cash
Bitcoin gold
Monero (privacy)
Iota
Eidoo
Last two are wild cards
I have a syndicate too with ethereum, zcash, omg and a few others.
Ethereum based wallets are a nightmare... so i pulled my money from them.
Bitcoin... just use something like mycelium or copay and keep your 12 word seed very safe... away from your computer (i have it on a secure usb in two locations)
Admin, a lot of that is balderdash to someone who's known of bitcoin for a while now but knows little on the technical details of it.
Would you advise against ethereum?
I'm thinking of putting a couple hundred into litecoin as that seems to fluctuate less but again my main issue is the stories of people's accounts being hacked and having to give all your details to coinbase including a picture ID although I know loads of people use it.

It's no longer trying to be a currency ... it is a store of value
Is there a difference between mycelium and using just coinbase?
Why would I need "12 word seed" whatever that is?

coinbase can be hacked... your seed, if kept safe... can't
That is a beautiful idea Ji, very Matrixy
so how do I get a seed...and can I still use coinbase and have a seed?
Explain to me please Ji very ignorant on the topic.
When Warren Buffet says it’s aload of pash that will fail, you listen, but what would he know?
I feel bitcoin has kinda peaked and isn't going to see the currency increases it had from 2010-15. The whole market is a gamble but people for some reason think constant growth is sustainable.
If that was true we would all be millionaires.

"Markets can remain irrational far longer than you can remain solvent"...The issue is I'm unable to find an instrument suitable e.g. an FSA regulated instrument in order to short it. Having used Plus500 and during the Greek Crisis and having funds frozen and the like, i do not wish to go through that again. Spreadbetting is far too short term, and likely to wipe me out before the market turns. There are no ETFs, Turbos or Covered Warrants out there. Should one come out in to the market, then yes i would be VERY keen to short it.

Rich Chinese citizens are clamouring for it due to the capital flow controls within their country and China's habit of devaluing. It's also a money launderers wet dream.
