Mr.C why would coinbase say that purchases via this method are unavailable? when there is big movement?
What method are you trying to use? I've used my debit card to buy so far and had no problem. Regardless of whether there's a up or down movement.
debit. Same as my previous two purchases
Nick
Bitcoin has gone down again.. What on earth are you playing at
Just found out the xmas do tonight is free bar, so the money I would have spent tonight I was going to invest lol
If its worked before then should be no problem for you to buy again.
Not necessarily Mr'C', with crypto's as they are so volatile, I check before I go to bed if I've a profit and set my 'Stop Loss' accordingly.
That way if it drops dramatically during the night I've not lost all the profit I've gained and I'll wait for the right moment (if there is such a thing with crypo's) and re-invest the stake and profit I took.
For example, last night I was around $69 in the green so set my stop loss at $60. It dropped so it automatically took the profit at $60 for me.
I would have been better not, as it recovered and went on even further - but on the other hand it could have plummeted and I'd have lost all I'd gained.
Not being too greedy is the key, I find.
DASH has just lost 5.1% as well.

Bitcoin hits the futures market on Sunday, which will bring serious money... It is hard to say if this is good or bad, as massive investors will be betting on lower prices as well as higher prices.
This is the main reason why BTC is flying though, and all the altcoin money is moving over to BTC (generally happens).
Another big news though was that lightning network has passed more tests and is a step closer. Lightning network, if implemented successfully, will allow instant, very low fee transactions from btc, ltc and ethereum (and even cross coin transactions).

But isn't Ripple's XRP and Ethereum both seriously faster than Bitcoin already?
Just seen this on the coinbase site Mr.C
"Minor Service Outage: We are experiencing a significant backlog in outgoing BTC transactions. Our team is investigating the issue. Customers may experience a delay when sending BTC from Coinbase."

Short term it should send the price way up. But long term, if i can get my hands on an inverse ETF or a put 2 year option I'll be going in heavy on the crash. If i get it right, I'd never need to work again.

As the spectacular rise that many speculators have missed can also be mirrored with an equally spectacular collapse. Many of those speculating on bitcoin will also quite happily bet on its downfall too. Most are not gambling with it because they believe it to be the future, but are simply wanting to profit from the bubble. They will flip position at some point.

Ethereum has slowed to snail pace by a game called cryptokitties!
Ripple, Iota etc claim to be instant... but not there yet on a big scale.
But lightning network just brings bitcoin level.... considering their marketshare and name... it would kill alot of altcoins that have nothing more to offer.
Iota and ripple are slightly different in that they are pre-mined... so can offer zero transaction fees... perfect for micro transactions.
The only other gap in the market then is privacy...
I hold btc, iota and monero for these reasons.

If still yet to hear a coherent excuse for iota being slow that marries with the current architectural claims. It should be speeding up not slowing down.
I sent 1 iota almost instantly today.... i just had to re-attach to the tangle... i think alot of these issues are wallet based, not network.
Remember.... people who are having a smooth time are not on reddit and Twitter complaining.... maybe it was a small amount having issues (me included)
The global wallet should drop this year... so proper testing can commence
